Question for points games

Post by Coby M »

Hi quick question. In games that are up to 5 or 7, is it standard for gammons to be 2 or 3 and backgammons to be 3 or 5, or is it 1 point per match unless things have been doubled?

2 points per gammon, 3 per backgammon mulitplied by the value of the cube.

Undoubled Gammons do not count - this referred as Jacoby rule which is only applied for money game (unlimited game) and never for matchplay.

I'm unclear on what you mean by this. I just played a 5 point match where an undoubled gammon was worth 2 points.

I think they were just trying to explain extra stuff to you that doesn't apply to the game on BGA. Noticed they said Jacoby rule "is only applied for money game." Jacoby rule is not used on BGA, it's a house rule for money games.

Their 1st paragraph accurately describes scoring on BGA, though.

In Match play (points play) Gammons do always count...doubled or not.

I've been finding that although it tells me I've got 2 points for a gammon or 3 points for a backgammon the system only records 1vp for a match won, not dependent on the type of win, and it only counts as 1vp towards a multi point game

I think you are talking about your Hypergammon games. To my knowledge Gammons/Backgammons only count in Hypergammon if the doubling cube has been turned.
This is different to normal Backgammon where Gammons and Backgammons always count when you play a match.

I believe in the arena the gammon or double gammon has no influence on the score. If they do have a influence this should be made clear.

I made a bug report. Right or wrong there is conflicting information as the pop up says 2 points but only 1 point is actually awarded
