ranking scores

Post by bubbaxis »

Hi all,

what do you think of a ranking scores in games where it is possible?

For example I scored 67 in a RFTG game, it was a good score but I don't know if it is the best.

Best regards

You mean like being able to see the range of scores that have existed on a given game?

That might work for some games, but for others it might not be very meaningful. I can think of games in which I will win with lower scores when playing better players, and higher scores playing worse players. And games where the score doesn't mean much, but is only relative to the other players.

If possible (but I don't know if it is the case, because as for what I know the games are archived all together on the site, they aren't sorted by category) it would be a REALLY nice feature. But as Liallan already said, it will be a nonsense in some games
To do some exemples Battle Sheep has a theorical top score, 16 points, easy to reach and sometimes when you play a great game you don't reach the maximum 'cause playing better will limit your opponent's score , and so yours. In some games winning give you 1 point, and losing 0 so not much chance to do high scores :D
Or in some others game playing in 2 players can allow you to reach higher scores than playing in 5 players, and so on.

To answer about the RFtG question, it's an unusual score but surely it isn't a record. I personally scored more than once 70+ points (if I remember correctly my record is 79, but you can easily check my last games and the last month I scored a 76) and sometimes I red more higher scores. In this old thread

also if Unofficial, there are some other higher scores, and a player scored 93 points that as for what I know, probably are the better score ever on the site.

i am not really too keen on the actual scores, but would be interested in seeing 'featured' game replays for each game that would match certain criteria:

- highest total points scored by all players (broken out by number of players)
- highest point differential between first and last player
- lowest total points scored by all players (broken out by number of players)

this would give players learning the game an idea of some of the worst mistakes to avoid, and would give advanced players a way to see how they could improve their gameplay further.

taking Battle Sheep .. i think a 4-player tied game at 16 apiece would be a very neat occurence. but the lowest total points in a 2-player game might also be interesting to watch ;)

Absolutely there are games were the scoreboard is possible and games were not.
In some game I play it is possible example Yahtzee, Puerto Rico, Stone Age, Race for the Galaxy, Through the Ages (last 4 the table will be different according to the number of players).

@Tejo 93 is the best score!!...wow....I would like to see this game....and this will be possible with scoreboard and link to that game!!

and prestige point on that game will be glad! ;)

Very impressive game, in total 46 points only with "6-Cost developments"

I think some of this would be misleading, especially to newer players trying to learn from a good game and perhaps don't understand whether high scores means a good player or not.

Just wondering if it has occurred to anyone that the way to find well-played games is by looking at games from the higher level players. (Likewise a way to find not-good games would be looking at games from lower ranked people. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any complete ranking list here.)
