BGAs random number generator is unrealistic.

Post by himynameiseric »

The games on here play completely different than in real life. Especially on the games that you draw cards. Playing the games in real life occasionally you draw the same card over and over. Or get what seems like sabotaged by the cards. On BGA it seems to happen about every 3rd game. Same with the dice. They just don’t roll naturally at all it seems. Maybe I’m crazy. But to me games play completely different on here.

It's just the usual confirmation bias. Interestingly enough, it's the complete opposite of the usual "dice/cards are rigged because the result are not uniform enough".

Of course it is rigged. They even admitted it when they announced, that they would replicate rigged dice for premium members in their physical board game arena cafe. I can't quite remember the date of the announcement ....

The random number generator used is very straightforward, and its output has been repeatedly verified to fit the expected curve over a large number of results.

If you are familiar with statistical curve-fitting and have a proposed test, feel free to suggest it -- it's easy to validate.

Of course, card shuffles and dice rolls in real life are not random, they are determined by basic physics and human inefficiency.

Yeah I think you just need to pay for premium to get better dice rolls and card draws.

Since it is the internet, and people of all languages read posts here, sarcasm may be hard to interpret. To avoid confusion:

This person is being sarcastic. They are talking about an April Fools joke.

This person is also probably being sarcastic. Exactly the same random function is called, no matter whether you are premium or free.

BGA pay people to roll real dices each time you are playing and Earth is fat :ugeek:

So what are you proposing? That whomever programmed the game went through the extra effort of making it appear random while not actually being random (Not an easy task and a lot of extra work)? Or that the RND(x) function is insufficiently random?

Either way I would like to see the data set you are using as evidence for this.

RNG only mimics randomness while actually being a predetermined function that tries to give random results. Dice rolls and good shuffle are closer to random then rng.

Not to say anything is rigged, but we can't actually create randomness, can we?
