Greater prominence to void result after players have quit

Post by danielvictor »

Just played in a [tournament] game in which one of the players quit,so then two more did,but the two of us remaining played the game to the end.I get that that part of the game was void for both tournament and rating purposes. But it mattered to the two of,us,we had fun,but all that the interface seemed to want to tell us was that the end result was void.I think it should put the void result up somewhere on the middle of the screen in bold type, rather than just have it in the points totals on the right.

Doesn't it already? I know there's a decent number of words about the fact that player X has been booted and that ELO will be awarded to others based on the percentage of the game completed. It's always felt clear to me that at that point the game is over, any further play probably isn't worthwhile.

As a note, I don't know how it's programmed, but whatever plays on for the missing players clearly does so without any actual strategy (it seems to be set to take a dummy move repeatedly, like just drawing cards forever in Ticket to Ride), which means that even if some of the players choose to play on, you're not really playing. Like to use my TTR example, if you're playing on a map made for five, but only two of the players are actually laying down routes, that's unlikely to be a satisfying game, as both would probably easily complete whatever they want (there's a reason the 2p game prevents double routes from being in play). While I get the urge to play on (I'd rather play than not, and hence, am reasonably lenient on people who go over time), I personally don't consider playing in that circumstance as meaningful.

Obviously, the scores of the players who quit will be low/meaningless in the void game,it's a contest between the players who didn't.Also, there will be random side effects as a result of the fact that those who quit aren't playing properly. But when I've been playing a game for some time,I'd like to finish it,and I'd like the interface to display and respect the result of the game properly, even if it is void.
