Can we stop saying 'gg' when It clearly wasn't!

Post by zeitmike »

I fully accept that there is an element of me being a bad loser here, but please can we all stop saying 'gg' or whatever when you've just destroyed me at 100 points to 0.

It wasn't a good game in this circumstances - it clearly was no challenge for you, and no fun for me.
Telling me how great-that-was, is really rubbing salt in the wound and just being a bit of a patronising ****!

anyone else feel like this?!

sincerely,

So you're saying if you won 100-0 that that wouldn't be a good game for you?
Even if you didn't enjoy it, they probably did all the same.
Take it is the proper sprit that it's meant - it's a mere farewell greeting like "Thanks for the game". Modern day internet fandango speak, innit.

Not an element but the entire thing. Presumably you understand what 'gg' actually means and are just choosing to misinterpret the intention.

Some people would take a "thanks for the game" as thank you playing so badly and letting me rejoice in my clearly one-sided victory in a game that you mere more mortal can't even begin to understand, and be much more offended than with a "gg". It's much better not to say anything... (and let others red-thumb you for not being nice enough)

"gg" is a simple pleasantry that means "thank you for taking time out of your life to enjoy this activity with me". That's it.

If you want to project your own malicious meaning on top of that, that's your problem.

What I really wish would stop is people raising this same issue several times a year.

Sometimes when I lose so hard that the game ends well before it does, I take it as a challenge "how many points can I salvage from this state?" And that's why usually a 0-100 lose is still a good game for me.

But that depends on the game. For example, an engine-building game, where my opponent makes 100 moves per round, making combos left and right, while I pass after making three basic moves, is genuinely bad experience...

It's so trite, condescending and disingenuous. As is "Good luck and have fun!"

I don't understand being offended by a polite statement of general pleasantries.

I'd rather be told to "Have a nice game" by someone who doesn't mean it, than be told to "**** off" by someone who does.
