Libertalia in two players

Post by tap-zbyna »

Hi, could that be possible to make 2 players game in Libertalia be played with blue and white deck? These colors seem to be much more fair for 2 players game.

Here are my reasons:

In red/black combination red player has the weaker parrot and weaker beggar. In blue/white it is better parrot for white but better beggar for blue.

Blue has stronger monkey, but weaker preacher and merchant. In R-B the black player is killing in games with plenty of relics on the board, since he has better preacher, better monkey, better merchant. In two players, monkey is always a bit unfair, but in B-W it is ballanced.

In R-B has the red player better cook, brute, mutineer and freed slave. In B-W it is better cook and brute for blue, but weaker mutineer and FS.

In R-B the 3 strongest cards are always winning for black. In B-W the blue player has better governor.

The problem in Libertalia is, that it is quite challenging to win a game with red cards. When two players are equally experienced, in 80% the black is winning. Of course there are situations, when red pack is much better (you play with brute, watta, quartermaster, cook...), but usually it is not a balanced game.

The characters I am comparing are chosen, because those cards are usually played together (both players want to start with watta, both players want to take 2 booty tiles with a cook and so on...)

I play Libertalia a lot. It is in my top3 of all boardgames, but when I play it in 2 players on BGA, it is rather unfair. At home we always play white-blue combination and it is MUCH more ballanced.
