I bought a copy of the 1st edition of Pax Renaissance but haven't played it yet. Can anyone tell me if the differences between the two are so different that learning to play the 2nd edition here on BGA would be insufficient for the 1st edition?

This is for online play and with mostly 2p games played on BGA, of course, but still...

Definitely not a 30 minute game otherwise.

30min game?

I've played this game over a hundred times in person and many of those have finished in 30 minutes or less. On BGA it will be even faster. Of course this will vary hugely by player count, by game, and from one player to the next, but I don't think 30 minutes is unreasonable for a two-player game. It's one of the best things about Pax Ren: how much action it packs into a very short time.
