You almost never undo, so why add the cumbersome step of having to confirm each and every time that you meant to do what you did? It doesn't make the Undo work any better. Just have an Undo button if you must, with no Confirm.
Unless I'm misunderstanding you... how would you undo after your final checker move if your turn just ended with no confirm?

I assume the developer will eventually add an option to turn off confirm and/or let people add a timer to it when he has time, though, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Unfortunate new backgammon version ... if it ain't broken don't fix it. The old version was straight forward fast and fun. Unreal BGA changed to new slow version. I vote BS ( bull shit )

That's the thing, though, it WAS broken. It wasn't real backgammon.

Go look at the suggestions for the old backgammon. Around triple digit number of requests for things like multiple point matches, doubling cube, and the undo ability.

The developer paid attention to the requests and addressed all the major requests. We're lucky to have a VOLUNTEER developer willing to put in so much work to make the game better.

And, he's still working on fixing/adjusting things and decreasing the lag. The game works great for me (except for real time fast), and I'm extremely happy I finally get to play real backgammon on this site (I had given up on the single point version a while ago).

I just played a game of Backgammon for the first time in months. OMG I hate it.
I don't like the changes and won't be playing it anymore.

1. It's horrible having to confirm every move.
2. Why do you have to click on the chip in the bar? That's your first move if you want to come out.
3. It takes too much time now. It used to be a quick game to play for a few minutes.
4. Sending your move to the server takes too much time.
5. When the other player can't move, the ribbon telling me his roll, blocks my ability to see my roll, thus takes more time.
6. I never played with all of the other rules. I just want a straight forward basic game.
7. I'm sure the volunteer meant well, but he ruined a game that worked well and looked pretty.

I like the changes, it's good to have the proper backgammon rules with doubling. Without it we had half a game.

BUT... it is soooo slooow. Even a forced-move roll takes 20 seconds to process.

Re: Latest update wrap text

What I’ve come to hate most is the wrapping text of the headers that make the board shift on the screen with every turn. No amount of adjusting screen size makes a difference. SHORTEN THE NUMBER OF WORDS!!
A close second is the speed between plays. Pick up the pace please.

Why should they want to?
I think tetrisz meant that the BGA implementation allows you to double even if you are only 1 point away. This is an incorrect implementation because doubling in this situation is an illegal move. In real life tournaments this in facts happens every now and then because you are stressed and do not pay attention. As soon as it is noticed it is undone by the arbiter - because doubling in such situations is illegal.

I filed a bug report back when it was beta game backgammonmatchplay but this is a minor bug. At the moment, one just needs to pay attention to not play such an illegal doubling move which only hurts yourself.
I think that's a bad interpretation. Not every match uses Crawford Rule. Does pretty much every official tournament? Sure. But LOTS of times home matches and home tournaments do not. In fact, I don't think I've ever played in a home tournament that DOES use Crawford.

I'm not saying that it couldn't be an option – or even that it shouldn't be the default option. But saying that it is an "incorrect implementation" because it is "an illegal move" is just plain wrong.

You seem to misinterpret my comments. My comments were not about the Crawford rule at all, but about the games after the Crawford game.

I give an example. If Player A wins a game and the match score increases from 5:2 to 6:2 for Player A (in a match to 7 points) there is a Crawford game. No player can double. If Player B wins the score is 6:3 in favor of player A.

Now the score is 6:3 post-Crawford and player B can double (and should do so at his earliest opportunity) but player A is *not* allowed to double by the rules! If player A doubles or redoubles by mistake (because he/she is not paying attention to the match score) an arbiter or tournament director will undo the effect of this double - even several moves later.

Here on BGA, player A can double even if he is already at 6 points! This is a (minor) bug.

Or a different example, if player A is leading 5:0 in a 7-point match and his opponent has doubled, by the rules, player A cannot redouble. Simply because the cube value of 2 is enough to win the match. The backgammon rules do not allow you to redouble from 2 to 4 in such a situation.

Here on BGA, player A can double in such an illegal situation. This is a (minor) bug.

Note: tetrisz has written "the player who is 1 away to the score can't double after crawford game." He might have meant (his words are not 100% clear) that after the crawford game the leading player can't double by the rules but he can double on BGA. Thus my response.

Not enforcing a rule that is totally pointless in the first place (why does it even exist in tournament play?) seems totally irrelevant to me. I wouldn't bother fixing a "bug" like that 8-)

At the moment before every roll you have to decide if you want to double. This is important because every move is a doubling decision (even if you are on the bar and cannot move).

But on BGA you are even asked when there is NO doubling decision because you are not even allowed to double (or if you prefer it that way: because you never want to double). This can slow down a game considerably and is just a nuisance.
