But I also see that sometimes tournament creators have unreasonable expectations and make tournaments that are quite tough even with current limitations. Which is fine if they wanted their tournaments to be tough, but that it's not always the case.
I think the point was 15 days was a little too short, but 30 days was WAY too long. It's also pretty widely agreed that more options on timings is well and truly needed for tournaments.

It's much harder because you only have control over the timer on your own turn - so yes, you can run your time down, but unless your opponent is also doing the same (which is possible), purposely pushing to maximum time by running out your clock won't help you win, since the tiebreak for that situation is time remaining. It's not perfect, nothing is, as you say.

You might have the flexibility in your life to do that, but many don't (and/or don't want to). I feel like real-time tournaments are more like this, since you have to be around for the tournament so you don't miss games. Which is why I don't play them. But I realise that limits things to single-day play, and I can see your point to have some multi-day time-pressured tournaments. If auto-boot and no boot were options for tournaments, then creators would be better able to indicate. But right now, there's really only one way to set them up, and creators can (as the tournament creator in the one I mentioned did) comment and say, this is the expectation of this tournament. But if there's nothing to enforce it, then anything can happen.

One thing I've noticed is people getting disheartened and quitting the game when they run out of time. So best to keep time limits reasonable.
