Track times

Post by AnDagda »

This was an idea by the game designer, Asger Harding Granerud on BGG.
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/308084 ... 8#42256998

I copied the suggestion here.
{ May I suggest an idea?

That everyone also registers their “time” to complete the race.

1) Count the legend cards used when you finish (+10 per shuffle), which would be your minutes. So 19 rounds would be 19 minutes.

2) Then count the number of spaces past the finish line which would be your seconds. However then you subtract that number from 60 seconds. So 15 spaces would add 45 seconds.

My time for the race would be 19:45 and we can then also celebrate fastest time for each track! }

Would it be possible to include something like this in the final race statistics? I think it would be cool to celebrate fast track times! :)

I actually came close (two squares away) from a 15 turn game in France today. I messed up the final corner section somehow though and didn't get the right cards.

A 16:55 on Italy.

Still trying for the 12 turns Great Britain and 14 turns USA. I believe along with 14 turn France and 16 turn Italy those are the practical fastest turn times.

I got 14:54 at USA today:

It came strangely easily so it didn't feel super special, but I went back to look at my replays and could only find one other 15 turn USA... But it was even better! (14:49):

14 turns in USA should certainly be possible. In fact, that 14:49 would've been a comfortable 14 turn game if the extra slipstream weather tile had been in the hairpin sector instead of the final straight.

13 turns is also the best that I've done at GB. I suppose 12 turns should be possible with perfect weather luck and such like, but I feel like that's even more marginal than a 14 turn USA.

I have come close to 14 turns USA a few times, but didn't get the luck I needed at crunch time, often down the back straight to the final 2 corners. The thing with it is it's easier to jump the 2 corners in lap 1, but it's then harder to front run an entire lap min-maxing everything likely by yourself, so it would make it easier to jump the 2 corners in lap 2, but it tends to be harder to do in lap 2 as the field has thinned out by then.

12 turns GB I think is probably the toughest, though tbh all of the best practical turn times I stated I believe to be the best possible are very tough to do. I have only come close to this once though, I got through the corners in 11 turns, but couldn't finish, because of that, I know it's theoretically possible, but it's tough, because you need both extremely favourable track conditions and a very strong setup, so you aren't going to get many opportunities at it. The obvious way to do it is 2 turns to the corners section, take the corners in 3 moves, then be able to back to the corners section in 3 moves, take the corners in 3 moves again, then finish. This requires you both to be very fast on straights, and very strong in the corners, so it's not easy, especially as if you are going at this pace there's very little chance anyone keeps up with you to give you any help in taking the corners in 3 moves lap 2. I do wonder if the way it will end up getting done will be if someone does the jump 3 corners in 1 move trick on 1 of the laps to take the corners section in 2 moves, such a move requires perfect conditions and upgrades, and often requires you hitting the perfect number so isn't easy, especially when you need it to not be prohibitively expensive heat wise.

Couldn't quite beat Vase's time, but here's a 14:54 on USA.
