Concede ?

I've recently played a game and at the last action, my opponent concede the game because he couldn't do anything to win. Is there an effect on his rank and does he do this to avoid loose too much ELO ?
Is there community rules that allow this way of playing ?
My point of view is that you can concede a game if there's a lot of turn to play and do not enjoy the game.

There's no effect of conceding, other than the game ends earlier. The elo change is exactly the same for both player as if the game had finished normally.

Now, quitting (or expelling) is a different matter.

play a 3+player game if u don't want people to concede.
Only 2p games can concede, with >50% game progression.

Its a completely normal behaviour widely practiced in many gaming communities around the world. If you have not encountered this before that simply reflects a lack of experience with board games in general.

Conceding a game one or two moves before the end is widely accepted and the usual behavior in Real-Live Chess or Backgammon games.

As soon as one sees that the victory is sure (mate in 2 or mate in 1,...) one is almost expected to resign. A check-mate played out on the board is extremely rare in tournament games.

Also in Backgammon one can still have a small winning chance in ones last roll (say, you need a double, and your opponent only has one single checker on his 1-spot) and if you don't roll the required double you simply resign (and dont force your opponent to take off his last checker).

All these situations are "normal" and have nothing to do with ragequit...

Yeah, conceding if you have no way to avoid losing is a standard practice, often even a basic courtesy. You can even thank the player for saving you some time if you want to.

And yet at least once a year we have pages long threads of people complaining that conceding is a crime against humanity.
