Filter Check Boxes and Sorting Options

Post by tuxedokamen2 »

I would like to have better filter options for searching for games. I think it would be good to be able to customize the search with multiple categories and subcategories with check boxes. For example: number of players (minimum and maximum), game company (Hasbro, AEG, Ravensburger, and Classic), game mechanics (cards, dice, chips, money, meeples, board movement spaces, and resources), average times for game duration (minimum and maximum), free-for-all or cooperative, stand-alone games with or without expansions, year of release, and premium and non-premium games. I don't like having to scroll through so many games just to find a game to try something new. I want to be able to sort out the games that I'm not interested in playing.

I would like to be able to create multiple favorites like having a way to sort the games into different folders on a computer and allow to have each game be put into multiple folders.

It might be good to have a "blocked" list for games that you're not interested in playing. By creating this for your preferences you can remove games from all of your searches. For each game that you block, you should have the option to block it from everything and/or block it from getting invites to the game.

I would like for these things to be considered to be implemented into this site and app.

If other people have suggestions on the categories and subcategories for check boxes to be used, please add your suggestions by responding to this post.

I like this sorting idea. I'm not a fan of card mechanics like Catan, Wingspan, Terraforming Mars etc. I like playing card games i.e. cribbage, rummy etc. I don't like games that are mostly turn based and take a long time. The min/max on the time is a good idea. I like tile placing games like Azul, dice games like Yatzee, Dominoes etc. To be able to sort would speed things up when looking for something new to try.

Try to make a bug/suggestion (https://boardgamearena.com/bugs) about it if it is not yet already made!

Then write the link here and we may vote for it. ;)

This can already be done on the Games tab.

You can already filter for number of players (e. g. 5-6 players https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?players=5%2C6), game mechanics (e. g. card games https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?mechanismTag=200), cooperative games (https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?mechanismTag=211) and premium games (https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?isPremium). You may also filter games roughly by duration (e. g. short games https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?durationTag=10).

I am not sure what you mean by free-for-all and stand-alone games.
