This forum is a waste of time and space

Post by Trimpster »

The purpose of this forum is as a suggestion hub, but given that the chance for a suggestion to be implemented is less than 1%, and that the BGA team keeps on rolling updates that nobody asks for, I'm not sure what the purpose for this forum is anymore.

Like, when's the last time a suggestion posted here was implemented? People just keep on posting new threads thinking they have a chance, but they'd be better off trying to win the lottery than bothering with this.

If by that you mean when's the last time something posted only here was implemented, I'm guessing the answer is close to never. This is not the place to get things into the queue for even being considered for implementation. It's for discussing suggestions.

But your point still stands that even when a site-wide suggestion is officially in the queue, there are few things that ultimately get implemented (compared to the number of things requested). But there are a variety of reasons why they don't. The unstated premise in your post is that all suggestions are worthy of equal consideration. Some are not. Some are just bad. I rarely comment on ones I think are silly/bad. I just ignore them. But there is a long list of them.

Others are legitimate and are close to being standard in web interfaces, yet still haven't been implemented. I'm thinking of things like a dark mode and the ability to mute chat.

BGA is rarely transparent about announcing their priorities for site-wide changes ahead of time. I doubt that policy will ever change. But like Lloyd Christmas in "Dumb and Dumber," if there is a 1 in a million chance of a change being implemented, you can still optimistically say "So you're telling me there's a chance!"

If you're getting the sense that this forum is like a "close door" button in an elevator that is not actually connected to any functionality but is there to give the illusion of being able to provide a control input...you're probably on to something.

Feels less to me about discussing suggestions and more about fantasizing and wishful thinking.

That is obvious enough, the point I'm trying to make though that it doesn't matter whether the suggestion is good or bad, the chance of it being implemented is arbitrary close to 0%.

I couldn't put it in words but you nailed it perfectly!

I'm sure at some point someone will pedantically point out an instance in which it did work (and I've come across them), but the BGA suggestions forum is definitely a placebo.

I just noticed though that after years and years of it being impossible to go from a tournament game to the tournament page, they've finally added a link.

I'm sure it took a developer all of 5 minutes to add the a href = ... tag to accomplish that.

Now they'll probably implement a 100 new games before they fix another glaring flaw again.

Games are not made by bga so this last critic makes no sense. Instead, you could say something like "now they will probably change a bunch of BGA pages before they fix another flaw again" since the new UI seems to be the main current task the past years.

I don't know the inner workings of BGA as well as you seem to.
Regardless, it's depressing that it takes them years to fix even the most glaring issues. One web developer spending just a week on this site would make such a difference.

People usually underestimate the amount of work it can take to change one button, especially if the code is horrid.

That's clearly not the issue though, what is clear to me, is that BGA doesn't give a **** about its users.

It doesn't mattter what you're saying, you could as well be talking to a brick wall at this point, nothing will ever change, This thread proves this, 88 pages of complaints.. Can you ever imagine anything else in this site reaching this magnitude of complaints? This has been unprecedented, and yet, it is just so depressing to look at.

It seems to me that they've started to ignore that topic in hopes that it will die down eventually..

Adding to it the recent huge debt on Asmoodee, which is due in like 1.5 years from now, and the future of the site is looking very grim to me.
