Looking to get my butt kicked

The best way to learn is to lose. I know real-time games start up from time to time, but I don't have the schedule to commit to one of those. I'd like to start some turn-based games where I can watch people who know what they're doing whack me like an ELO pinata. What are the best game options to make sure I catch people with a turn-based table? I know the expansions seem popular.
