Does anyone ever get ahead in the Arena?

I keep trying to get above Bronze level, but keep getting slaughtered by people who are Elite level. Is there any way to choose to play people who are closer in level to me? I’m still new to the Arena and how it works.

In the Arena section under the "Play Now" heading, click on the gear next to Forest Shuffle. Under Advanced Options, you can change the Player Level to exclude people who are much higher in rank.

Or if you are starting a new Arena game you can go to the door symbol in the upper-right corner of start and exclude higher-level players, players with poor reputation for turn completion, and people who don’t speak your language, if you prefer. I love the international nature of BGA.

I don't think excluding players who are higher than you actually works in arena mode. I have tried it mulitple times and someone with a much higher arena ranking and ELO almost always joins my game.
