Kickstarter advertisement

I am a premium member and as of today I'm seeing an advertisement for some kind of Kickstarter campaign. Is this a bug?

Just want to chime in with another perspective.

I understand concerns one might have about precedent and the direction BGA is going, but this is exactly why Asmodee bought BGA. Contrary to the gloom and outrage everybody expressed when that announcement was made, the site has continued to present a pretty consistent experience for the last 3 years, with several new professionally developed implementations of games they would not have been able to license otherwise. The founders were ready to move on to other things after 10 years of running this site, and the alternative to Asmodee acquisition would have been shutting down or selling to other companies that would monetize in much more annoying ways and/or would pivot away from board games.

It is an ongoing Kickstarter run by Monolith, which is owned by Asmodee, for a game that is playable on BGA during the campaign. It is in the same location as other events such as the Summer/Winter of Games calendar. As far as advertisements go, it is relevant to users of this site, unobtrusive (only on the front page), and presumably temporary. A small ad only on the front page of the site is honestly a small price to pay to continue having this site the way it is.

I would like to point out that although you are correct at the moment, the fear since the Asmodee purchase has been that they would force ads for paying users.

They are now displaying ads for paying users, though in a friendly way. Virtually all sites that go way downhill (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc.) start by showing ads in a friendly way, and then once people accept that, aggressively accelerate into a miserable experience that starts to kill the userbase.

I say this in hope that BGA somehow avoids this, despite Asmodee's new mountain of debt.

Indeed, that's the escalation that has led to stuff like YouTube banning people who block ads in some cases.
