I watched the game. Looks quite good! I like very much that osprey is platform bird and gives 5 points instead of hummingbird 4, crow 4 but lose egg each turn or towhee 0. Together with green heron they looked very strong. I think Crow is better in any case, but i understand its hard to find it.
Also its good that your opponent wasnt able to use the 7-8 fish that you gave him. I would imagine your dissapointment if opponent would play great egret + atlantic puffin and then Wooping crane. Or if he would play common grackle in grassland or wetland with barn swallow (he can play grackle for 3 fish and barn swallow for 2 fish) and start laying eggs very quickly, much faster then he should be able to. Win all rounds and leave you and him at equal points, only difference would be that he would have 2 birds in forest, 1 bird in wetland and many good birds in grassland to make 7-9 points each turn for last round moves.
So i think its about the same as hummingbird, its slightly harder to play it (cost 1 fish instead of 1 any) and you cant manipulate the birdfeeder, but you get exactly the food you want and more points early on. And platform nest, i dont exactly know why, but i think platform nest can give more points compared to hummingbirds bowl nest. Perhaps it has something to do with how good ability birds in grassland engine dont have platform nests but im not sure (like towhee, barn swallow, purple martin, hummingbirds, northern bobwhite, all tuck & lay egg birds, chain birds - that allow you to play second bird in grassland in 1 turn) and if you need them for bonus card or round objective and build grassland engine then its harder to find. Perhaps you need to play swainson's hawk/red winged hawk(?)(or similiar hunter) if you can find them, but i think they are inferior to other mentioned birds.
