turn-based game switched back to real-time

Post by Dar 1111 »

I dont know if this is a bug or feature.

https://boardgamearena.com/7/terraformi ... =524271794

The other player was out of time.
I clicked "switch to turn-based."
The page restarted and showed me that I had switched to turn-based.
I informed the other player about that.
A few hours later, I was somehow skipped from the game.
Somehow, it switched back to real-time. How is this possible?

Of course, there's no need to mention how rude it is to skip someone who waited for you for so long...

Is this feature (moving from real-time to turn-based) not safe in the game?

I've never switched a game to turn based before, but I assume it requires permission from both players?

It's it possible it hadn't switched to turn based yet? Just that you had put in the request/vote to switch to turn based? Then when your opponent returned, they rejected the request/voted no, which kept it in real time, took their turn, then skipped you because you weren't there?

I did this multiple times. If another player is "out of time," you can skip them or switch to turn-based mode. Yes, it requires the agreement of all users who are not out of time. Basically, for long games, this is a great feature as you don't need to end the game in the middle just because one player took an unexpectedly long bathroom break.

But this time, it did not work for me. I ended up losing a game I was winning and losing karma.

Ah, so if doesn't require permission of the out of time player, thanks for the clarification!

Possibly another silly comment/question by me (since I've never done the switch), but how fast and how much time bank do you get when it switches to turn based? It looks like after they returned, they didn't boot you for an hour. Is it possible it switched to a very fast turn based time, and then you ran out of that time before they booted you? Or does it always give you a full time bank (12+ hours depending on speed)?

I believe that each time I used "switch to turn-based," there was 1 or 2 full days for each turn. I never had any problem with that, so I am really surprised by what exactly happened this time.

The "thinking time" shown in https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=524271794 looks weird. You got a full 2 days, to lose them in half a minute.

exactly my point. I had two days, and then it somehow switched back to "real-time" and I was skipped...
