Olympia new version.. Expansion Wonders and Leaders/black cards

Post by Safrvn »

Hello, good afternoon everyone,

As a season 7 player wonders enjoying 3p and 4p games, I do appreciate the new version especially for the new Yellow Building which favors army strategy and make the game more enjoyable in 5players.

However.. The tile says it all (at least for the great fans of the game).. The new Olympia is a very sub bar wonder. I do not know if there are precise statistics of the game by Wonders.. But drawing the new Olympia often means strong chances of losing/scripted playstyle and often consider lucky if scoring 2nd at the end of the game.

Would it be possible to make some changes here ? bring the old version in the new version ?

How about adding the Wonders from the Wonder-pack / black cards / leaders ?

Thank you for reading me,
Wishing a great day to everyone,

I don't think Olympia is the worst Wonder. It is just different, maybe a bit difficult to play. It has some advantages. In my books, Alexandria is by far the worst on average.

Playing Olympia and utilizing the wonder benefits is crucial. Optimize the free picks. Olympia is very good for playing military. Night Side has probably the best first stage on the whole game. Last stage might Be terrible but you can just ignore It. Some prefer the day side and recommend taking a Guild or a blue for a free card. This can be efficient but most of the time day side requires you to play resource denial. You want to have a good card that no One Else can play so you can spare it for later. Night Side is easier. Wonder resource and stage requirements benefit red game. Free card on age 2 is very good. Overall, Olympia is just underrated and people don't understand it's strong suits.

You can see "wonderful plays" on YouTube he is a very good player and Olympia is his favourite Wonder, so you get some nice tips. I play Olympia very different from him, but still succeed more or less. Proves that it is not just one way you can win with It. It actually has decent versatility and chance to ignore the wonder just adds to it. Olympia is unpredictable and you often win just because no one thinks you can win, they cripple eachother and you are smoothly coasting to the victory.

No, the OP is right. Olympia is terrible and basically an auto lose and should just be removed from the game.

I will never understand the internet nerds compulsion to be a contrarian

No need to remove anything - just play classical edition. Side-B wonders are way more balanced there.

Yes, Olympia 2nd is straight-up a bad wonder. I have no idea why Repos thought the change was a good idea. I actually really enjoy Olympia 1st, but Olympia 2nd is one of the things that just makes me say "Okay, I'm just not playing my wonder this game."

That said, the BGA version should match IRL. Hence, unless Repos says "We apologize for the mistake of this wonder, please change it," I don't want BGA to change it.

I would play 1st Edition way more if others did here. I would frankly love to see a 1st Edition Arena.

I proposed it for the next season, let's see what gurus decide.
