Confused about Playing Hours

Post by djmalloc »

In my Arena settings I can choose playing hours like:

Code: Select all

I never want to play with 15:00 - 3:00
I prefer to play with 6:00 - 18:00
What does this mean? Am I setting a preference to be active during the 12 hour window described by the two times?
I have set my preferences to normal waking hours in the US but consistently get paired with players in EUR and Asia so I am wondering if I misunderstood these settings.

I guess that's only for fast turn-based games, which have playing hours.

Those hours are your personal preference, and the games will be set as such for those active hours. But some players in Europe or Asia may have a different lifestyle(work nightshift?) and are avaible to play during your active hours, whoch would generally be their country's inactive hours.

What happens if you play outside the playing hours?

Also I see things "2 different options". What does that mean? Could I change my options part way through?

Nothing. There is no prohibition against playing outside the playing hours. It's just a time when no one's clock will run.

Where do you see this?

Part way through what? If you mean part way through a game, no. Once a game starts everyone has the same playing hours (translated to their time zone) for the duration.

I'm new to turn based and had a question about playing hours, too. Found this thread and thought I'd just add to it instead of starting a new one. Let me know if that's not how I should have done it.

What time zone are the playing hours? Does the system translate to your local time? Or is it server time? GMT? This seems like it should be explained somewhere, and maybe it is, but it's not right there in front of me, and I just don't know where to look.

The time zone that the site thinks you're in.

It would be nice if they'd just display the time zone next to the times.

Searching for a thread that already exists for a question you have is absolutely what you should do and isn't done nearly frequently enough. Thanks.

And/or the current time, so you can verify that the timezone the system believes you're in is the right one.
