#23 - Solo Challenge [July 2024] ENDED

Post by montybojangles »

July's solo challenge is to play the Itars against the automa of the month, the Taklons (select the 'Automa of the month' button), on the RANDOM map. Check that the seed in the automa score panel is 17198352. It is important that you read the Rules section for more details, especially if the seed is not 17198352.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this challenge is for you. The goal is simple: have fun and get a high score in solo mode. Thanks to the BGA set-up, you can easily compare your score, watch replays of games and learn different ways of playing a faction. (There's more guidance on how to view replays at/near the end of the May 2023 challenge.) Play serenely at your leisure: there is no timer pressure!

Well done to Mallumän for making it two challenge wins in succession! Will it be three for July, can kespie win again, or will there be a new champion? Of course, it's most about taking part and sharing games, so sincere thanks to everyone who had a go at the June challenge.

There's elite rank for the top 5 players with winning games and cadet rank for everyone else.

  • Mallumän 281 vs Alptrauma 202 - https://en.boardgamearena.com/table?table=533837527 - Started with Ac on the first round and then PI on the second round. Special tech points from 3vp/mine, 4vp/ts and 3vp/fed. Maxed out gaia and terraforming sciences, 4+1 federations.
  • yiyuiii 216 vs Automa 120 - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=532404227 - T1 sh+2m, T2 take 2 adjacent gaia planets and the lower-right corner, in this way Navigation 2 is unnecessary for a while, and with careful leading I got 5 planets in the corner. Then I climbed Gaia, Navigation and AI tracks for scores.

1st step: Create a new table. Select Training or Friendly mode and RANDOM map. Choose 1 player/Solo and click on Start game. Select the red box Automa of the month (Taklons).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Itars. Check that the seed is 17198352 (in the player score panel). If it isn't, start again using the alternative starting method (below).
4th step: Play the game. Post your score(s), mentioning the chosen difficulty (see the format below).

Alternative starting method: Start the game with RANDOM map selected >> Choose the Taklons faction card (as you would for a normal game) >> Set the custom seed (17198352 for this challenge), which is next to the heading 'Choose Automa Difficulty Level', and Select the Automa difficulty >> Choose Itars.

Players usually insert the link of their game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played) and mention which openings, tech tracks and other actions have been crucial for them (e.g. RL+2M. Economy, aiming for advanced tech tile on AI).

Ideally, use this format: YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g.: Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game, with aim of taking advanced tile on Terraforming).

And don't forget to have fun!

yiyuiii 216 vs Automa 120 - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=532404227

I basically focused on controlling the planets where Automa goes, since the position of the Itars' planets is hard to plan in this game.

T1 sh+2m, T2 take 2 adjacent gaia planets and the lower-right corner, in this way Navigation 2 is unnecessary for a while, and with careful leading I got 5 planets in the corner. Then I climbed Gaia, Navigation and AI tracks for scores.

Greetings!

Greetings! Thank your for being the first to post a game, a very nice one. I like your choice of starting planets and first booster.

After a couple tries, sometimes struggling to have enough science or resources, or automa taking my spots, I think I hit the jackpot with this one.

Mallumän 254 vs. Automächtig 132

Started with Ac on first round and then PI on second round. After that tried to expand maximally, while racking up workers for the 5th round terraforming bonus during the 4th round. Special tech points from 3vp/mine, 4vp/ts and 2/vp science. 4+1 federations.

Tried basically the same strategy vs. Ultoma and surprisingly got an even better result:

Mallumän 265 vs. Ultoma 156

Started with Ac on first round and then PI on second round. After that tried to expand maximally, while racking up workers during the 4th round for the 5th round 2vp/terraforming bonus and 3vp/mine tech bonus. Special tech points from 3vp/mine, 4vp/ts and 3vp/fed. 4+1 federations.

Could probably squeeze over 280 with better optimization 😁

Mallumän 281 vs. Alptrauma 202

Started with Ac on the first round and then PI on the second round. After that tried to expand maximally while gathering points from the round bonuses. Special tech points from 3vp/mine, 4vp/ts and 3vp/fed. Maxed out gaia and terraforming sciences, 4+1 federations.

I have played with Itars only few times a year or two ago, I don't like how strong they are and that many people play with them, especially in 2p games...

So my score is not as good as it could be. I made several mistakes (with tracks or energy).

Me 182 vs. Ultoma 153

Academy R1, PI R2.

3 feds (4 tokens), 28 VP from techs, 34 VP from round boosters and 40 VP from tracks (and 30 from final scorings).

That's stunning! Wow. The map and Taklons are kind, but given there aren't gaia boosters, the gaia advanced tech or lots of gaia rounds, that's very impressive. Three advanced techs is a nice achievement. Is it beatable...?

That's still an excellent score. I played a quick 'test' before setting the challenge, where I play seriously but try some unusual things, and scored only 143.

There's two weeks left to post a score, at any automa difficulty. I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer.

This month's gold medal goes to Mallumän for an Olympian effort and one of the all-time high scores. Well deserved silver and bronze medals go to yiyuiii and Johnash87cz. Thank you for taking part.
