Where did disabling undo in Azul dissapeared?

Post by mr radenko »

Hello!

From today I do not have option to disable undo moves in Azul?

What did I miss?

I too have lost this setting. I can't understand why. Undo is the most annoying feature on BGA.

This means that, after 5,000 games of Azul, I probably won't be playing it anymore.

idk if you don't like undo, don't use it. no one is holding you at gunpoint forcing you to use the feature.

It hasn't disappeared, it just moved to the user preferences (where it should have been from the beginning), as announced on the players group ( https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=10175102 )

The trouble is, I can't stop my opponent from using it, which is what should happen for BOTH players if this feature is disabled. Being able to visualise what happens when you choose a tile is a skill, just as much as analytical thinking. In ftf games, we always rule that once a piece is touched, you must take it/them. No different to chess.

It's very easy to visualize in Azul and I doubt people are using undos for that purpose. It is just a simple quality of life update for people playing on phone screens/smaller surfaces where the chance to misclick is high. The only people negatively impacted are the ones that rely on their opponents misclicking for their wins.

In my experience undo is primarily used because people can't visualize - so they like to pick, see the options, then decide - not because of a "misclick."
IMHO - it slows the game down and makes it less fun/skillful. I think of Azul much more like chess and enjoyed being able to turn confirm off as part of the game settings.

Semi-relevant: US tournament rules for Chess are clock, not touch. You can touch every one of your pieces, and you are not required to move them. You can even move pieces, move them back, move a different piece, and so on*. It's not until you've made a legal move and pressed the button on the turn timer that it's cemented.

International/EU uses the touch rule.

* You don't usually see people doing this, because it would give opponents some insight into your thought processes.
