This caught my eye, so I checked the time settings for 99. For the normal real-time game, the maximum time available is 75s, but only 5s is added to your clock each turn. There is no way someone can take 75s each turn.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑07 July 2024, 19:43
I misspoke. I am aware that they are entitled to their whole clock. When I make this statement I also have certain scenarios in mind. What I am saying is just because bga gives you a 75s clock at a game like 99 (a game in which actions take less than a sec) doesn't mean you should take 75s every turn. As you mention they can wait until the final seconds every turn and that would be poor behavior. The issue is bga not providing an adequate clock for certain games. There are also games in which the clock may be adequate but within the game there are auto actions in which you shouldn't take minutes to do.

Thank You!Mathew5000 wrote: ↑07 July 2024, 22:26 It is inconsiderate to be surfing the web in another window, or doing household chores, while it's your turn to act in a real-time game.
When you decide to accept a real time table then that is your priority atm. Like Matthew said, If you are doing a bunch of other things instead of playing the real time game you opted to play then you are simply being inconsiderate. If life happens and you must take a phone call or attend to kids then no biggie. Things happen. I am not blaming the people. I am blaming the site for allowing people the option to report someone who politely ask another player to stop being inconsiderate. The idea of someone wasting someone else's time and then getting mad and reporting another player for politely asking for their time not to be wasted is ludicrous. They could just simply say, "I'm sorry. Had a urgent call. Here now".Jellby wrote: ↑07 July 2024, 20:59Most people's priority is not playing games, but if they find a game that allows them to play it while they go on with their life, they may choose to play it. Don't blame people for doing what the site says they can do.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑07 July 2024, 19:43 So I just want to make sure I am understanding people correctly here. If someone makes a game last way longer than it should because instead of playing said game they are making calls, taking care of kids, doing chores around the house, etc they are behaving in an acceptable manner and that is proper table etiquette because they are staying within a game clock that is too long to begin with? Meanwhile someone who ask them if they cannot do all these things so that they can do what they are supposed to be doing (playing the game) has bad table etiquette and should be reported?
If you think the allowed time is too long, that's an entirely different issue.
There was a brief period in which I would pm players in fast turn based games to try to prevent games being ended abruptly due to kicks. I thought I was being generous but I guess this is actually a reportable offence. How dare I ask them to try and play faster and not fall below the clock (often times very early in the game). The proper policy is to not communicate with people at all and just kick and red thumb I guess.

There are estimated game durations for each game.
nik592 wrote: ↑08 July 2024, 00:47as others have said, if a player is sticking within the time allotted, then they're just fine. If you don't like how long they are taking (whether or not you think it should take them all of their time to make their particular move), choose a different speed of game.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑07 July 2024, 19:43 If someone makes a game last way longer than it should because instead of playing said game...
As I stated before, just because someone has time on their clock because the clock is inadequate that doesn't mean that the game duration isn't being abused. Also if someone ask why another player is taking so long to take their turn when its clear that the amount of time being used to take the turn is excessive then that shouldn't be a reportable offence.Shivaware wrote: ↑08 July 2024, 03:15This caught my eye, so I checked the time settings for 99. Here is a game of 99. As you can see I took 86 turns in 35s. My opponent took 86 turns in 138s for a combined total thinking time of 173s for 172 turns. Now with these clock settings a person can take 523s during this same game before you can kick them. That is an additional 6 min of thinking time for one single person in a game that was played by 2 people in under 3 min. There are plenty of other games in which this applies also. If player b was to message player a in this game asking if they could play a little faster then they wouldn't be out of bounds.
Re: Impatient players joining my slow speed table.
Nah it is not their priority. The only thing that might be a priority is not going into red. Idk why people feel like they get to control how others choose to use the time allotted to them, so much entitlement. Apparently using available resources is "inconsiderate" lol. They chose an appropriate speed setting that allows them to multitask if needed. If they chose poorly, they will go in the red and you are free to kick them.ChiefPointThief wrote: ↑11 July 2024, 12:16 When you decide to accept a real time table then that is your priority atm. If you actually read what I wrote then you would know it is already stated that there are no “appropriate” speed settings for these situations. But considering other post you replied to me in the past I’m sure this isn’t even a serious comment.buu441 wrote: ↑11 July 2024, 14:29Nah it is not their priority. Which is just an average of played games (when not some arbitrary number entered by the developer), and most of the time doesn't take different settings into account.
Yes, that's exactly what it means. If they're playing each turn within the allotted time, they're not abusing anything.

Re: Impatient players joining my slow speed table.
And if someone can single handily have 2-3x the amount of thinking time than the average game duration for multiple players before you have the option of kicking them don’t you think that that is an excessive?Jellby wrote: ↑11 July 2024, 14:40Which is just an average of played games (when not some arbitrary number entered by the developer), and most of the time doesn't take different settings into account.
