As I stated before, just because someone has time on their clock because the clock is inadequate that doesn't mean that the game duration isn't being abused. Also if someone ask why another player is taking so long to take their turn when its clear that the amount of time being used to take the turn is excessive then that shouldn't be a reportable offence.

Here is a game of 99. As you can see I took 86 turns in 35s. My opponent took 86 turns in 138s for a combined total thinking time of 173s for 172 turns. Now with these clock settings a person can take 523s during this same game before you can kick them. That is an additional 6 min of thinking time for one single person in a game that was played by 2 people in under 3 min. There are plenty of other games in which this applies also. If player b was to message player a in this game asking if they could play a little faster then they wouldn't be out of bounds.
Sounds like you should be playing at fast speed instead of normal speed then.

This doesn't address my main point. In fact, only one person out of several even addressed my main point. People just nitpicked one certain aspect out of several paragraphs I wrote but I will play along. Even at the fastest possible speed for this game my opponent could take 344s before I can kick them. This is for a game that I demonstrated it is possible to take over 2 turns per second. There is no adequate speed settings for this game! I have already stated this multiple times and given factual data to support this statement. This is not a foreign concept hence the countless threads and bug reports already on this topic.

And again you should direct your complaints against the time settings, not against the players who are complying with the settings.

I guess the "are you still there" button is a complaint also. Why are players hitting this button while people still have time on their clock? They are fully entitled to their entire clock right? They are allowed to not be there and do several other things during the duration of the game correct? If all the things people are saying in this thread are true then there is no reason for someone to ask if another person is still there while they have time on their clock. Considering comments from users in this thread it probably shouldn't be used once someone is in the red either. The sentiment being expressed here is don't talk to people. Red thumb and report.

When your main point is that you don't like the amount of time players are given to play their turns, there's not much that can be said to that. It's an opinion, something far-removed from the actual rules. There's not really anything for anyone else to address.

You're totally right that it's annoying when someone takes an entire two-minute turn to make a single decision with only a couple of choices. For me, that would be the Ticket To Ride games, where the only choices are draw color cards, draw objective cards, or play color cards to claim a route. If you're thinking about your strategy during your opponents' turns, it should only take a few seconds to play out the decision you've already made.

... in a perfect world. Unfortunately, there are people who have some level of executive dysfunction that interferes with that decision-making. As long as other people are acting, they can't focus enough to actually concentrate on what they intend to do, their mind is a garble of white noise until there are no other "moving parts" to deal with. Once it's their turn, they can start the thought processes that most people have already made.

And there's nothing to be done about that. I know - I've tried. There's a friend at an irregular gaming group that I attend that has this problem. Playing something like Terraforming Mars is guaranteed to take another hour-plus with them involved. And there's nothing to be done about it. My impatience won't help. The problem isn't something that can be fixed. It's just something in their head that doesn't work the way we expect it to. And the only possible options are to either suck it up and accept that this is the way it's going to be... or exclude that friend from playing games with us.

And excluding them for something that they have no control over seems pretty heartless to me. So the only real answer is that we all have to accept that some percentage of our games are going to be slower than we expect, because of reasons outside of our control.

But if your opponents finish their turns in two seconds, you don't have much time to think, do you? ;)
It can also be argued that you should also be able to react to what your opponents do, figure out their strategy, how it may affect yours and how you can hinder it... So whatever you thought during your opponents' turns may be invalidated by their moves, causing you to reevaluate everything from scratch :D

Actually my main point was that it is silly you can be reported for politely asking someone if they can play faster because they are taking far longer than is necessary for an action. Especially considering that the preset "are you still there" message serves the same purpose. Acting as if someone is "entitled" for not wanting their time wasted is crazy. In fact, someone who thinks they are above being talked to when their actions are affecting someone else seems like the more entitled person to me. It is also being portrayed as if the person asking someone to play faster is toxic while at the same time people are advocating that you should report players who talk to you peacefully, you should kick people who go overtime, and you should red thumb and never play w/ ppl again without speaking to them. All of which is way more toxic than someone nicely asking someone if they can speed up a bit.

The last time someone asked me about my time I was having difficulty moving because of some bug. I explained this to them and asked them not to kick if I go in the red which they didn't have a problem. I didn't go and file a report and they didn't red thumb me (to my knowledge). The "don't say anything and just red thumb" thing is not how humans act. If you were at a gaming convention and someone was taking an extra min every turn because they were on their phone you would eventually address it. They would also not go and get security once you did address it.

Furthermore, when people are filing a bunch of silly reports everyday this takes resources away from bga when there are things that really need to be reported like cheating. I've seen a few threads about people wondering why their reports on cheaters haven't been resolved and bga probably has hundreds if not thousands of reports of people complaining because someone said "play" to them.

It is great that you gave insight for the conversation. But, we aren't comparing someone with a dysfunction taking an extended amount of time in a heavy game to someone who is taking a min to do an auto click in a game that requires no iq because they are deciding to prioritize other things during a real time game that they were not forced to join are we?

A factual opinion. Based on numbers. There are thousands upon thousands of games played here. If someone is giving a clock on the fastest settings that allows them to single handedly use 2x/3x more time than the entire average game duration than they were in fact given too much time on their clock. Another thing that goes against the argument that someone can't use too much time just because they are not in the red is the "I would like to think a little" button. This is here because you can in fact take an extended amount of time on you turn. Players are conscious of this and use it to put the table at ease while they are taking more time than usual. I've only seen this button used while players were in the green also.

I had a turn based game recently where a player was playing too slow and I was able to comment on it (twice) without being reported. I made sure I was being polite and said "Please be aware of the time settings of the table, if you aren't able to play within the turn limits maybe we should all agree to abandon the game?" And then requested we abandon the game which someone declined.
A couple days later the player was in the red (but played their turn before I saw and ejected them) and I said "Not to be rude, but as a mater of course I don't continuing games where player's are in the red, it's not worth playing through the game just to risk someone kicking them on the last turn. If the game isn't going to go to conclusion anyway maybe we should agree to abandon it now?" (Translation: I will kick this player as soon as I have the opportunity), and we then agreed to abandon (player in red wasn't given a say).

It's being ruse that gets you reported. As long as you're polite you're fine.
