Best way to test

Post by tarini »

Hi, my game (florenzacardgame) is 80% ready and I would like to tell some of my friends, already registered here on BGA, to help me test it.

What is the best way to allow them to test the game? Is it possible to test the game on BGA studio with different users?
I tried to create a table on BGA studio with two different players but I got a database error.

From what I understand, you're right, on the studio you can only play against one of your avatars.
But they are precisely intended to let you test your game with friends, so the proper course of action would be :
- assign each of them a number between 1 and 9 (keep to the 0 for yourself), so that they will be Tarini1, Tarini2...
- give them the password for your studio account
- let them test the game (you should inform them that they can blow up the time limit with no penalty)

Be aware that if you have an ongoing test game with one of your avatars, your friends won't be able to use it for another game, so maybe keep Tarini1 for yourself too.

If you're not comfortable with giving them access to your studio account, you can change the password for Tarini0 and leave the others as default.
If some of your friends have an account on the studio (which is not the same as the standard BGA account !), they may test the game with it too, but they would have to split the Friend1, Friend2... avatars the same way, and can't play against a Tarini(x).

Hi,

I should add that for the test with the publisher we have another dedicated platform available so don't worry :)

Thanks for your work on Florenzia !

I'm very doubtful.
I follow your advise: I changed tarini0 password on studio platform but now I cannot login with tarini1/tarini2... the only avatars that works is tarini0.

What am I doing wrong?

If you only changed tarini0, then tarini1..9 still have the (4 characters) password that was given to you when you subscribed to the Studio.

If you don't mind someone reading your source code, could you add them as a read-only developer on your project?

Damn! You are right! I will search that code!

No problems with source code, but the problem is that I have a lot of tester-friends and I want them test together in the same game match. To do this, one of them must give to the other players his password but it's not so good

I don't know if this is an acceptable approach, but I think all of your friends could create studio accounts, then you add them all as read-only developers for your project. Then they all have their own username and password. This might be frowned upon by the admins.

That wouldn't work: due to the specific way table creation is handled in the studio, only the username0...9 can access a table created by usernameX.

So if you want to test with some friends while your game is still in the studio, you need either to give your friends your username0..9 password, or - if you prefer to keep your username0..9 password private - create another studio account (such as usernametest), login with usernametest0/usernametestpassword, create the table and tell each of your friends to login with usernametestX/usernametestpassword to join the game.

Cheers,

I thought about this, but to create a second studio account I must have another bga accout due to validation when create new studio account
