Arena Star calculation

Trying hard to get to Elitr.
Just lost a game when I was on 4 Diamonds and the penalty was to take all 4 diamonds from my progress. When I win a game I mostly get 1 diamond, occasionally 2 but at this rate I’ll never get to elite. How is this calculated?

Well, there it tells us: 'When you lose a game, you lose Arena points.'

How many?

The same as the other player wins.
