Thanks Thoun for all improvements. I am in touch with a lot of players in the Carcassonne community (including world champions and most national champions) and the feedback is predominantly positive!
A brief list of improvements that were made, together with additional suggestions:
-
Images of tiles in the game log are no longer broken. This is especially important to know if your opponent discarded a tile! Although some additional cues would help regarding discarded tiles (e.g.
displaying a list of all discarded tiles during the whole game, somewhere on the table, see
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 30&t=36726 and
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=27954), this is already a very nice improvement!
- A
clear indication which opponent(s) holds a tile in hand. Very well solved with good design. Especially helpful in turnbased games. This information is crucial for strategic decision-making and would prevent ambiguity, especially in the final moments of a game.
- We haven't tested the following yet:
What happens if a player discards his last tile while his opponent still has a tile in hand? Normally the tile from the opponent should go to the player who discarded that tile. In the past, this caused some issues:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=36461 (e.g. Nocebo and statmatt replied in that topic, they are both world champions...). This is especially necessary in high-level tournaments, e.g. this went wrong in games of the world championship and in the mindsports olympiad.
- A
subtle indication of the starting player (>> in front of the player)! Very nice, we all love that! In official tournaments, if a game concludes in a tie, the starting player should be deemed the loser. This information (‘who is the starting player?’) is from now on readily available during the match without the need to review replays, or scroll all the way down in the action list. Great!
- It was not clear to people
who advances to the next round in case of a tie. Also for non-official tournaments, it makes a lot of sense to let the 2nd player advance to the next round in case of a tie, instead of rules like ‘the player who used the least amount of time'. E.g.:
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 30&t=19574. Ideally, the fact that the starting player loses in case of a tie is a tournament option: “Will the starting player lose the game in case of a tie, or will it be a tie?” ->
This is fixed now (https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=33628), not as a tournament setting but in ALL games. Not everyone is happy with it, e.g. Hungarian champion 'szigfrid' stated in
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=33628: "Even in ongoing Swiss system or round robin tournaments? (Where there might be players who got 0.5 point for their already finished tied games.) In my opinion the change should only be used in single elimination tournaments."

This one isn't fixed yet but seems pretty easy to fix: For some colors it’s hard to see what the last played tile was. Especially green/yellow are hard to see. Possible solution:
make the colored border a bit bigger solves the issue, like in
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 30&t=36726.
Thanks again for all effort!
