How to build track - HELP PLEASE

I've just started a second game of ROTW. I've had the same problem in each. The instruction in the heading reads " Click on the selected hex until the required track is presented". I clcik and wait; I click and hold; In despair I click repeatedly. Nothing happens. Exactly the same problem as in the first game - except that there, eventually (whilst I wasn't looking) the possible hexes for building were suddenly highlighted; no problem now! except that the route I wanted to take wsn't included!) Nobody else in game 1 seems to have recognised the problem - so what SHOULD I be doing differently?

Legal hexes are backlight in gray.
Each click offers you the next legal track that can be built.

If the servers are super slow, you could experience dramatically slow response.

Check the personal choices for a variety of track building choices.

You seem to be doing the correct thing.
