Yes what you are talking about is a very different thing. Two completely different fish!!

No-one begrudges anyone taking their time if they are new to a game ..

We speak of those who use the time clock to manipulate and ensure a win for themselves.. Its sad some folk feel the need to do this ... honestly, to measure your self worth irl in desperation against a win in an on line game with someone you will likely never meet is baffling to me ...lol

Seriously - a player can use the entire timer if they want, that is the rules. If you go over the timer then you can be kicked - your opponent is entitled to do that. In the example you gave your opponent stayed within the rules, and you didn't, and went over on time. You were the one who did something wrong.

This is not a new issue, and there are problems with the timers (time zones, connections, multiplayer games) but the problem usually comes down to a failure of expectation. The timer is part of the rules of the game - an opponent is allowed to use every second of it; you are required to say within it. It is not a thing people should only use in accordance with their opponents sense of what is 'right'.

Yeah. Any game where someone's local group plays it as multiplayer solitaire, and then they come online and discover how it's really played. Complaints will be lodged.

It's really out of control. The turn time allowed are far too long.

I just give them a red thumb so that I do not have to play them again.
Sometimes, I will find something to do myself between plays. That way maybe they can see what it is like to have to wait on the other player. Plus, I am allotting a certain amount of time to play a game so if somebody is wasting time, it cuts into the time I have to play . Therefore, I have to try to get some other things done between plays.

That there is only one choice for play is obvious to you, but not always to another player. I've had games where I've looked at several options I wanted to take only to realise they're not available to me right now. Additionally, sometimes I spy that it appears there's only one option but it's not advantageous to me and I might spend some time double-checking there really is no other choice.

The time you should be allocating to play is the time all players are allowed to take for the game - I believe it tells you this time on the game page when the game is being setup (if you're not setting up the game, you can always check by changing the settings over to whatever they are for your game to see). If you can't allocate that time, you probably shouldn't be playing either. If they run over their time, that's different, and then it's a judgement call as to whether you want to continue given the time you may have already put in and how long it might take to find another opponent(s).

Of course, as you mention, you're also free to red thumb if you really dislike the behaviour, but shrinking your potential pool of players can also make it harder to find opponents.

People may also want to use the "extra" time they get when there is only one possible move to think about what they will do next. Instead of using 2 minutes next turn, they use 1 minute now and 1 minute next turn
