I'll be amazed if there's not a discussion about this already, but I can't see an existing one in which to rant.
I don't get why you're allowed to block players for Arena games. It ruins the integrity of the game. End of discussion.
If someone's abusive or annoying or whatever, they can be reported. But even if we insist on a blocking them, it should still be possible to play them in Arena games. You could simply disable the chat when someone is paired against a blocked player.
If you don't allow all players to compete against all other players, it's simply unfair. And I don't see how anyone can possibly disagree with that.
If someone is noticeably better than you, block them. Then you'll only get paired against weak, beatable players and you can inflate your scores accordingly.
In Fluxx, two very active players that are consistently in the top 10 have me red thumbed. I have no idea why, nor do I care, since it's their right to do so. But it puts me at a massive disadvantage. I'm never able to play them and beat them, or grow my own rating.
When they're above me, I have no opportunity to play them and claw it back. Yet they can always play everyone above them and have a chance to grow their rating. I'm always paired with lower-ranked players, so I don't get as many points when I win and I get battered when I lose. How is this fair? Over a long period of time, they're at a huge advantage just by blocking better players.
It probably doesn't matter much in games which have bazillions of players and that are purely skill-based. But Fluxx is extremely high variance. I consider myself pretty good, certainly very experienced, and my win rate is 60%. There is so much luck involved that your rating will vary a lot, it's a volatile game. One loss against a lower-rated player will hurt; two or three in a row puts you out of the top 10.
I feel like they know this and are gaming it. Even if they're not doing it on purpose, my point stands.
