Option for banning Olympia

Post by TwoLambda »

I understand that home rules are not welcome on BGA, and I understand that Olympia can be good in the hands of an experienced player. Still, I want to have an option when creating a table that sets the chance of Olympia being in the game to zero. Struggling with it is just not worth the "game fullness" and "variety".

The option exists already, it is called Game version.

I want to be able to play the new edition without Olympia rather than the old edition, because the art upgrade values more than the added trash gameplay features for me (as for now).

Why is the cry Always about Olympia and not Alexandria, the worst Wonder for every experienced player?

It is good as it is.

Alexandria is a good wonder for beginners, while Olympia is always weak. The option can be implemented for both wonders. Anyway, I don't understand why they disliked the decent old edition Olympia and made it like this. Now it's the most RNG wonder in the game IMO.

Why are we talking about Olympia? Babylon is by far the worst wonder.

This forum is not a debate about which wonder is the worst, because Olympia is already proven the worst by reliable BGG statistics (there's a link to them in some other 7W forum). I just want to have an option to remove it from my games.

It seems that demanding implementation of this and that house rule is a slippery slope. Somebody has to assess all these requests (prioritize, check what makes sense and what doesn't), code and test them. In many cases games aren't implemented by BGA current staff, so they either need to understand the implementation, or reach to the original implementer. They may need to deal with the author's feedback if he is explicitly against a certain house rule. And eventually all these options will clutter the game setup UI and fragment player base (like already there are folks who play only certain player count, only certain version, only arena, etc.). It also raises the question of "Elo compatibility" (is Elo of players who play with options X/Y/Z even compatible with different set of options?)

Pretty much - nothing is free and everything has consequences.

PS: And just playing already implemented classical edition is immediately available option.
