There appears to be no way to report a user for abusing the Karma system

Post by Cile »

On the Main page if I go to "Contact us / support" to "report bad behaviour" I am told to go to the user profile and click the "report this player option"

When I do so I am first strongly discouraged from reporting the player, then the vast majority of the options for reporting the player say "you may not report the player for this". It looks like I can only report a player for behaving inappropriately in chat, or exploiting a bug. This is neither, it is abusing how the website functions.

In order to report exploiting a bug, I need to link to the bug being exploited, as well as the table it was exploited at, before I can type a report. Again, this is happening on the website as a whole, not at a specific table.

This appears to be repeated behaviour from this user, so I've created this bug report: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=132258 that I can link to if I need to report them in the future.

For those that know the user I am trying to report, I also propose this as a solution: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=132261

Upvoted. It should be mentioned this player has been abusing others on BGA this way for years. It is past time to fix this glitch in our matrix

BGA are quite aware of this if they were able/wanted to solve it they almost certainly would.

Your solution won't work. A player can easily increase the number of tables they are able to join by not timing out. In the case you are referencing that is already the pattern with karma.

The user I am talking about is running out of time on 66% of their games. For every 3 tables they join their net would be -1 tables allowed. Considering they join over 300 tables at a time this would rapidly lead to results.

I should have also suggested that if a user runs out of time on a table they shouldn't receive any karma for finishing the game.

Ya, unfortunately there is no way to correct the typo.

So why don’t they want to when it is affecting thousands of players every month? Considering there often more than one player in most his games, and that this player ruins at least 1000 a month when he gets online. Why does this not matter and why is nothing done about it?

There was a long thread about this (I think it was the same case), and the reasoning was something like, we don't want to punish people too much for timing out because maybe they had an emergency or got in a car accident. It would be unfair.

It's like how we don't punish schoolchildren for never doing their homework because maybe once some kid somewhere had a legitimate reason to not do it.

This player must be an extremely busy individual.
Plays when he can!

I'm curious whether the player who created this post has ever played with this individual.

If the person has established a pattern of ruining games for hundreds of other users, it would seem sensible to simply ban them. I expect that if a number of people stopped paying for this site because of it, the incentive to ban the user would overcome the incentive to keep getting paid by them (assuming they are paying.)
