#24 - Solo Challenge [August 2024] ENDED

Post by montybojangles »

The solo challenge for August is to play the Bal T'aks against the automa of the month, the Firaks (make sure you select the 'Automa of the month' button), on the RANDOM map. Check that the seed in the automa score panel is 17225136. It is important that you read the Rules section for more details, especially if the seed is not 17225136.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this challenge is for you. The goal is simple: have fun and get a high score in solo mode. Thanks to the BGA set-up, you can easily compare your score, watch replays of games and learn different ways of playing a faction. (There's more guidance on how to view replays at/near the end of the May 2023 challenge.) Play serenely at your leisure: there is no timer pressure!

July's gold medal goes to Mallumän for an Olympian effort and one of the all-time high scores. Well deserved silver and bronze medals go to yiyuiii and Johnash87cz. Thank you for taking part.

There's elite rank for the top 5 players with winning games and cadet rank for everyone else.

  • Mallumän 225 vs Ultoma 161 - https://boardgamearena.com/8/gaiaprojec ... =547914959 - Started by building an academy and going up gaia. Mostly used gaiaformers for the tech QIC action. On round 4 built PI. On the last round maxed out econ and terraforming, and took the 2/vp per sector and ore/sector advanced techs, and terraformed.

1st step: Create a new table. Select Training or Friendly mode and RANDOM map. Choose 1 player/Solo and click on Start game. Select the red box Automa of the month (Firaks).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Bal T'aks. Check that the seed is 17225136 (in the player score panel). If it isn't, start again using the alternative starting method (below).
4th step: Play the game. Post your score(s), mentioning the chosen difficulty (see the format below).

Alternative starting method: Start the game with RANDOM map selected >> Choose the Firaks faction card (as you would for a normal game) Set the custom seed (17225136 for this challenge), which is next to the heading 'Choose Automa Difficulty Level', and Select the Automa difficulty >> Choose Bal T'aks.

Players usually insert the link of their game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played) and mention which openings, tech tracks and other actions have been crucial for them (e.g. RL+2M. Economy, aiming for advanced tech tile on AI).

Ideally, use this format: YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g.: Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game, with aim of taking advanced tile on Terraforming).

And don't forget to have fun!

Oh dear, very low target - a loss.

Alright, this was a tough one. I admit I restartet twice after 2 turns, realizing my plans won´t work out at all.

Chessmaster_Hex 173 vs Automa 150
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=544667799

Starting with two steps in gaia and beginning a gaia project first round.
Later went up AI and the usual one step in terraforming ;).

My first two rounds felt excruciatingly slow, but I suspect the board/automa this time really make good starts hard.
I somehow thought in the last round going up AI to the top would enable me a 4th alliance, so I wasted a few points there since I couldnt go up on Gaia anymore, but nothing to big since the 4 q.i.c also netted 9 vp.
I´m very curious to see, what the crazy good players here pull of in this setup.

Thank you for designing those interesting puzzles for us!

Mallumän 216 vs. Ultoma 161

Started with Ac on the first round, up one step in terraforming, then in gaia. Then continued going up in gaia, then eco, and then terraforming, while expanding as much as possible and gathering round points. Maxed out gaia, eco and terra in the final round and got the advanced tech points from the 2vp/sector tile.

Thanks for setting this up again!

Nice games, both. Chessmaster_Hex, I like games where there's good use of economic advanced tiles. Mallumän, it's great to see a game that shows Bal T'aks can easily combine gaiaforminng and terraforming.

I'm glad that Bal T'aks can do well here without both the 2c/1qic and range 3 round boosters.

I am such a noob... I should have steped on the 5th step of Gaia track not on the economy track in the last round. I missed that. Plus should have taken the booster which gives 2 VP per TS. Cost me about 10 VP, or more...

But I liked this map for Bal T'aks.

Me 178 - Ultoma 161.

I started with RL + 4 mines. Gaia track first and then the eco track.

3 feds (4 tokens), 32 VP from tracks and 19 VP from technologies...

Neat federations. It seems like a decent score even without the 5th step on gaia. Yes, the map does have a couple of useful clusters for Bal T'aks. thanks for posting!

Score lists updated.

Won 174 - 161 vs ultoma. Went for the Stone per Sektor advanced tech, and tried to get as many gaia planets as possible. No Institute. Very fun Game. Thanks!

Mallumän 225 vs. Ultoma 161

Started by building an academy and going up in gaia. Mostly used the gaiaformers for the tech QIC action, trying to get income up that way. On round 4 built the PI and started expanding after that. On the last round maxed out econ and terraforming, and took the 2/vp per sector and ore/sector advanced techs, and terraformed maximally.
