Puerto Rico layout suggestion

Post by Wannabe »

hello,

In a 4 or 5 players game the game boards of player 4 and 5 are out of the full screen. I have to scroll up and down every time in order to get a complete view of the game. Even there are enough spaces for the two game boards on the screen. The user layout will be much more better if the game can be viewed in only one full screen.
I suggest the game boards for player 4 and 5 to be placed on the empty spaces as shown in the following picture.

Thank you very much.

Hello,

You are of course right... for your resolution (1366x768 I would guess)

Without getting too technical, I'll try to explain some. The elements in a web page are flowing from left to right, and break to a newline where there is not enough space to fit in.
So I cannot set up a player board on the right side of the bank : if I did and there was not enough space, it would fold and plantations and buildings would be pushed downwards, while they are used way more often than the other player boards (which you need to look at only from time to time when you want to check on your opponent's progress).

In fact, if you have a big enough screen, all the 4 other player boards are visible on the same line below the buildings. But in your resolution there is only space to display two side by side (it may look like there is enough space for a third, but it's an 'almost, not quite' kind of thing)

At BGA, we develop games under the constraint of being playable from 1024x768 and onwards (about one third of players play in this resolution). The current setup has been optimized for having two boards side by side in 1024x768 (you can try this by resizing your window). Maybe by tweaking some pixels I could get a third one to fit in in 1366x768. I'll give it a try when I get some time. As for a fourth... anyway you were looking for an excuse to buy a bigger screen, weren't you ? :D

Cheers,

In fact, there is 47 pixels missing for a third board to fit in 1366x768.
It's too much for an easy fix...

Hello,

I came back to this suggestion, remembering something a player told me while testing the game (that for other players, the role list wasn't really useful and that it would be better to remove it).
So I did just that, and it makes it possible to have all the other players boards on the same line under the buildings starting from resolution with width >= 1280 pixels.

This change will be included in the next release (sometime next week).

I hope this will make it easier to keep an eye on other players boards !
