Can't join games

When I try to join a turn-based game, I just get the error message 'You cannot change game configuration of a turn-based table after any opponents have joined the table'. What does this mean?

I'm not sure how you join games, I think it's best to just use the Play Now feature and set your preferences to how you want to play. Then you are automatically matched with an opponent. Very often if you try to manually join tables, then there's a good chance you're too late and the automatic matching has already happened.
