How do keep from running out of time after I go to bed? It's happened to me a few times now. Should I be logging off before I go to bed? Or is there something else I can do? I'm new here and I can't take the constant hits to my karma.

Re: Sleeping time?
You are signing up for the type of games that do this to people. I noticed you had a game that was fast play, needing eight moves per day. That leaves no time to sleep. Sign up for regular games and don’t take those games fast play games. This simple change will solve your problem.

Re: Sleeping time?
Okay, I'm having trouble understanding how those x plays a day work. Minimum? Maximum? How much time do they give you? Why is it counting against me when I'm waiting for someone else to play? And what's a time joker? How do they work? How did you all figure this stuff out? Am I just stupid? Help! I'm so confused!
Re: Sleeping time?
8 moves per day has a 12 hour playing period - if you aren't on regularly during that period, you're probably going to lose time. In those 12 hours, your clock ticks when it is waiting for you to move - this may include when it is also someone else's turn, but your clock will not tick if it is wholly waiting on someone else to play. During the other 12 hours in the day, everyone's clock will be paused. You can still play during this time. You gain some time back each time your turn comes up, it varies with table speed, but I'd guess probably 1.5 hours for 8 moves per day?
The number of moves is roughly average - kind of minimum but you do have a time buffer that is supposed to allow you to go over for some of your moves, so you can get away with less than 8 moves a day sometimes but you should really be planning on that as a minimum. There's no maximum but if you play quickly, you'll obviously accrue back time - there is a maximum for your buffer, which also varies with table speed.

Re: Sleeping time?
It’s true that your last couple games had limited playing hours but I cant see which time zone it was looking at. Some of your games were set to play 24 hours a day, but still need to play four times a day or you would go against the clock. And you did because that is not enough time to sleep.
Time jokers give you four extra days, but you only get four in a year. That will not help you in this situation. You need to stop signing up for games that need more than one play in a day. Start your own games. Use the timer when you start your own games to say that you will only do one move per day. You can do more than one move. But you will be able to sleep without getting
You sign up for eight moves a day in 12 hours. You are not even getting two hours between moves before you start going overtime.
Just pay attention before you sign up and you will do OK. Or start your own games where you set the clock yourself.

Re: Sleeping time?
Unfortunately, nobody will play with me if I start a table. I've had people quit a game when I sign up for them. The only thing I can figure is that it's cos I don't have 100% karma.
Re: Sleeping time?
I'm also not sure what part of the USA you are in, but I'm on the west coast. Most of your timeouts are in games with playing hours between midnight and noon, so your clock is ticking down while you are sleeping. These particular games are meant for players in European timezones, so that when they are asleep, the clock is not ticking for them.
If you do play with appropriate playing hours like 9am to 9pm, I guarantee that players from Europe and Asia will join your game and they will be the ones running out of time.
I really wish BGA would make it harder for people to join games with inappropriate playing times without being fully aware of what they are signing up for. I'm envisioning something like the explosive bolts scene from 2001

Re: Sleeping time?
I disagree with any system that hides opportunities to play games based on a narrow conception of what is a "normal" time to play. I do 100% believe that you should have to specifically acknowledge that you understand what the playing hours are and click something to accept them, kind of like you have to click through the warning on beta games.Shivaware wrote: ↑14 August 2024, 06:50 There's also a BGA suggestion you can vote on: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=57379

They could forbid (or add extra warning) joining games outside their playing hours.
Re: Sleeping time?
Currently your karma is in the mid 60s, which isn't great but also not terrible. In your case I would play a couple of fast real time games (yathzee, don't stop, etc) to get to 75%. Once you reach 75% it should be much easier to find and create tables, since that is the next cut off point for automatic match making.Moondragon007 wrote: ↑14 August 2024, 05:26 Unfortunately, nobody will play with me if I start a table. Visual components are very impactful too, even so there is no big numerical difference between 69 and 75, the color difference assigned here on boardgamearena is massive.
