Hello,
Is there a way to organise a "all round" (toutes rondes en Français) with more than 15 players ? Is it a core limitation, or just a limitation that can be unlock with experience in tournements organisation ?

By default, the round robin tournaments at BGA are implemented to start all of the games at the same time. I've heard reports that it is possible to configure a tournament to spread these games out, but it doesn't seem easy to do.

Starting more than 15 games at once will probably be overwhelming for many players, who often are not expecting the games to all start at the same time.

Yeah I do that, I set the time of each match with 1 week between each, it is a bit long to set but I like the idea of really meet each opponent of the tournement ^^
You have to set the exact date and time for each session of encounters. match 1 : as soon as possible, match 2 : date of start + 1 week, and so on til match 14.

The first Time I try that, I learned the hard way for the simultnaeity ! We had all 14 games of Ark Nova launch at the same time and had only 7 days to finish them x)

They can register immediately after you finalize the configuration. Beware that once even a single person registers you can't change the configuration.

Apologies if this has already been asked - I used the search, but it's tricky to think how somebody else would express the same question.

So If I setup a Tournament with 16 groups , 7/8 to a group, and the top 3 getting through to the knockout phase, this will leave 48 players for the knockout phase. It appears I could setup such a tournament, so my questions are as follows :

1) How will it work the knockout to leave 2 players for the final? I assume it'll start with a round of 32, with the winners playing the remaining 16 players who skipped a round (after which point it can just halve until reaching the final 2) ?

2) If so, how are the players who skip that initial round decided? Ideally it would be those players who finished 1st in their group, with the initial knockout round being like a playoff between those that finished 2 & 3rd in their groups

Yes, I'm pretty sure it will work like that.

I agree with you, that would be the ideal method. But I believe that BGA's algorithm is to give a bye to the 16 with the highest Elo, out of the 48 finalists. What I don't know is, do they use Elo as of the very beginning of the tournament (start of stage 1), or as of the start of stage 2. I know I've seen a thread on the forums, of someone pointing out that in a similaly structured tournament to the one you describe, in stage 2 some players were facing opponents who came from the same stage 1 group.

The best way to find a definitive answer is to see what BGA actually does in your case. Take screenshots of the tournament page showing every player's Elo at the beginning of stage 1, and then again at the beginning of stage 2. Then look at the pairings in stage 2 and you'll be able to report back here, what BGA's algorithm is for this structure of tournament.

Thank you, Elo based byes probably won't feel fair after a group stage so I might look to avoid that style setup , but useful information nonetheless.
