People joining games which are saved for someone else.

Post by Liallan »

I am trying to do a training game with someone, just 2 player, turn based. So I'm putting her name in the "save a spot for" space. Theoretically, no one else should be able to join this game.

But twice now someone else has joined these games. I definitely made them 2 player only. The first time I explained the problem and asked if we could do a group abandon, and fortunately he was really cool about it.

So next time I checked everything once the invite was up to make sure I hadn't made an error. Definitely that person's name was on there as the second player, kind of light, when it says that person has not confirmed yet. But it had that person's name on the invite.

And yet it happened again that someone else took the game.

Am I missing something? Or should I report this as a bug? I don't have any other way to make sure this is saved just for her and she's not really on enough to try the "put up invite and grab it fast" version.

This situation may happens, I never understood why but sometimes you can join a table with the last spot reserved for a player.
I don't know if it's a bug or it is a feature of the site, maybe we should wait for an answer by an admin

I've had that same problem several times. There seems to be only a few people concerned though... Could it be browser related or anything like that? I use Firefox, if that's of any help.
For now, I've just stopped creating games and I ask my friends to do it instead, but it's annoying!
I have a turn-based game, with no time limit, that was intended for someone specific who I know is online at least every couple of days, and the person who took it hasn't played in 20 days! And there's absolutely nothing I can do but wait.

It's just annoyingly happening because when a turn based table is full it directly starts, Would be nice if every1 had to click accept first as well just as with real time. That way you can actually check who joined before you're already in the game. After which you can choose to start or kick the wrong person. I also see lots of complaints of people that join games in turn based but then never even make a first move. Imo having the accept window first, is handy to stop starting those kind of games as well. I mean if the accept thingy is still active after 2 days probably better to just abord starting the game and leave without any problems what so ever. But yeah i rarely play turn based. Most turn based i play is when i'm online with some1 i know and he or me wants to learn the game, then turn based is nice for longer moments of discussion of rules and gameplay.

Still i agree that reseved places should only be able to be filled up by the person the place is reserved for (until the host decides it takes to long and unreserves the place)

To make sure your spot is taken by the person you want you can make little groups (abuse the system), you can even make a group that you add and kick members of for all specific games. Group restrictions do work. Then if you want more then 2 players you relief the group restriction after the player with a reservation has joined.

Cheers,
Sawyer

Yeah, I've definitely had this scenario happen to me, as well. Interesting idea to use the group restrictions (could limit it to just my friends) when I'm trying to invite a friend to a game.
