Cities and Knights timer too short

Post by Terrinist »

Somebody always runs out of time because Cities and Knights just has so much going on. Then people in last place win because they kick whoever ran out of time regardless of whether they're actively playing or not. It seems like the timer is the same as the base game, which does not require nearly as much action. Does anyone else share this issue?

I agree. It is really frustrating to invest 40 minutes in the game only to be kicked out for a 20 second overtime.

Are you playing on Slow speed? If you need more time, play on a slower setting.

I usually don't need more time, but most people do. Speed depends on the game itself, not the player. Some games simply take longer, especially on more difficult maps (2-3-12 ore, 2-3-11-12 wheat, or 2-3-11-12 sheep)

Hello,

+1 with this time problem.
When you get the bonus+1 ressource, sometimes you get a bug timer and 10secs are gone even if you select your ressources in 1sec.
Time is added only on your turn. In some cases when a lot of cards are used on you + robber + chose a ressource, you may be out of time at the beginning of your turn. Animations are also included in the time.
It happens especially when you are first, once I get kicked with -25sec. It may be strategic for opponents to kick you by this way of using cards on you.
I like to play in rapid mode because some of player play very slowly but I had to put it back normal because all of that.
@BGA, please consider :
-Fix time bug issue when +1ressource bonus.
-Addition of time when :
- Robber loss of cards
- Cards use by opponent

🙂

Timer is too big actually!
It is absolutely possible to play fast and play good at same time.

Slow speed should be defaulted as standard when C&K selected. Way too many timeouts and strategic boots - the latter of which is completely out of order if someone is clearly playing their turn. Some turns later in the game need more time to execute and it isn’t fair to force them to do it under the clock. This isn’t chess. Trading effectively can take time, even in base game, and when you add in all the extra elements of C&K, it is very easy for your clock to tick down near the red.

Seriously? There’s a lot more to deal with in C&K and forcing speed play does not help. Some turns near the end simply require more time. It’s unfair to intimidate your opponents by threatening to boot them when they are trying to navigate trading, upgrades, multiple progress cards and all the rest at the same time. Speed is relative and you should give everyone the chance to make their best moves.

Sure it's possible, but that's missing the issue.

People shouldn't get booted when they're actively playing the entire time. Or perhaps people should only get booted when the majority of other players agree on a vote. I've never played a game of Catan irl where time was a strategy, I don't think that was the intention on BGA. Rather, they don't want people wasting time by overthinking moves or just being AFK.

If you're fast enough, great! I've seen too many games where people lose just because a sore loser boots out a potential threat. If you're in a higher ELO, it makes sense that you wouldn't see such underhanded tactics often but I certainly do all the time.
