New game: K2 by Adam Kałuża

Post by sourisdudesert »

We are proud and happy to introduce K2, a mountaineering game by Adam Kałuża published by Rebel.pl.

You control a team of 2 mountaineers trying to climb to the top of the famous K2 mountain. Each mountaineer brings you points depending on the highest position he manages to reach (ex: 10 points for the summit, 7 if you go above 8000 meters, ...). The issue is that this is a very dangerous hobby and you'll have to keep your mountaineer safe until the end of the game. If not, you'll loose all points gained by the dead mountaineer. Needless to say you'll have to manage the risk carefully.

While climbing, you'll have to pay attention to your mountaineer acclimatization value: If this value reaches zero, he dies. At each turn, this value may vary depending on the weather and your mountaineer location. Obviously, the higher you are, the bigger is your acclimatization penalty, so don't forget to quickly bring your mountaineer back when you think this is not possible to go higher.

The key of the game is the management of your cards. Each player gets the same deck of cards, you have 6 of them in hand at the beginning of your turn, and you must select 3 cards at each turn. Given that, you can of course use your best cards in a single turn, but then you'll have to keep your mountaineer safe in the following turns with the other cards.

K2 is quite simple, very challenging and very fun. There is a tension until the end of the game because even if you are the leading player you can still loose a mountaineer and all associated points. You should definitely try it!

K2 adaptation for Board Game Arena has been realized by Przemyslaw Sporysz using BGA Studio. A big thank you to Przemyslaw for the great work!

BGA would like to send a big thank you to Rebel.pl for this game and for their authorization to have this game here on BGA.

NEW IDEA!

K2 in real play can be played in SOLO. Here in BGA you can't play alone (you need 2 to 5 players).

Maybe can be nice if you adapt the game for 1 player if you should play WITHOUT ELO.

Why without ELO? Thermopyles is a solo game with ELO. I think there is a solution!

But Thermopyles is only solo.

I don't think a game being solo or multiplayer with elo works.

Hi, unfortunately i have problem with time management in this game. It seems so unfair, i was playing normal speed game but i was going low on time, moreover i was trying to play like fast speed robot:P, still i was getting short of time. So u kinda more thinking about not to get low on time than about game enjoyment...(plus i am not beginner it terms of game rules, so for beginners it is even more difficult

In my last game because of that one rude guy decided to skip my turn, needless to say he was in bad position...

So in my opinion one should have more time to think probably just few minutes more should be added on the clock just to feel comfortable wile playing. Because of that i am not sure that these last bga improvements are completely smooth and correct

anyway ofcourse i am still supporting these efforts in trying to make bga better, but hope u can do something about issue i ve got here

cheers
