Luck Factor 1?

Post by Jack0815xxx »

Hey - i am little confused about that luck factor...

In my opinion it should be at 3... It all depends on which colour of stones are drawn for the next round... and there is also luck with the new drawn cards...

Btw the stratetic factor should also not be at 5... there are much more stratetic games on this platform...

My man, I don't think you've fully grasped the game. There is pretty low luck if you are working to make it low. If you are creating shapes close to cards you haven't seen yet, you'll get rewarded more often than not. If you keep yourself flexible without blocking yourself, you can't lose just because you got shut out of one resource. It depends on how to define "Strategic", but Harmonies is one of the most strategic games I've played on here. You have to work out what your opponent is doing as much as yourself so you can take the card they need right when they need it.

I'm near 100 matches with Harmonies. And I have to say, the luck factor definitely should not be 1. In a 2 player game, usually around 60 tokens will be placed. Count in the remaining offer, that will be 75 tokens. There is a total of 120 tokens in the game.
Chakra has a similar energy/token taking mechanism, but the game only features 48 energies, and ends with around 36 energies excavated.
Chakra has a luck rating of 2, which is more than justified. A luck rating of 1 is for games like Terra Mystica or Century: Spice Road (curiously, the later has a luck rating of 3. Because apparently 3 is the default and no one bothered to change it).
5/8 is a lot lower than 3/4, not to mention the pool size increasing the variance of the distribution of tokens. I have encountered 3 matches in which only 3 tokens of a particular color are excavated. Is the chance high? Maybe not. 3% can be tolerable for some players. But these are incredibly sacky games, in which we're just playing who catches green first. Not something I'd expect in a a game with a luck rating of 1. Not 1 out of 1000 matches.

If the lowest is 0, i think 1 is correct for harmonies. You have to adapt constantly to your opponents, the animals on the market, your own play and the tokens' colour.
If you respect some basic strategic rules to optimize the placements and anticipate what could come next it's hard to make a low score.
2 would be ok but definitely not 3.

Thanks for your feedback guys!

I still hope sb will change it, cause its just irritating for players searching a "less luck" game and getting a game that depends on luck...

Nevertheless, I like that game ;-)

Have a nice sunday!

Agreed. There's been 3 of my recent games where my spirit animal is dependent on a a particular colour and only 3-7 of those came out the entirety of the game. When you're opponent takes half, it's hard to even finish the spirit animal. Yes, I am selecting spirit animals according to tokens presented at the start.

On the other hand, in the same game, my opponent, had access to countless blues, 14+ in total, and their spirit scored based on blues.
Yes, I did pivot in all games to try and incorporate other cards and other combos. But I'm the end when you're opponent scores 20+ for their spirit animal alone, it's hard to make up the difference.

If it was a one off, I wouldn't have said anything. Happening multiple times, makes it pretty luck dependent, in my opinion.

If you play with spirit animals it is way more luck dependant than without. I have lost games where I built well but had horrible luck with getting the tokens to score spirit animal points. And I have won games where I build like crap and the supply was flooded with the spirit animal tokens needed so I won without doing any actual card scoring.
