How to concede a game when concede is forbidden?

On an impulse I thought I would try a Carcassonne "speed" tournament - big mistake.
Turns out I am not fast enough, which is fine.
So when the time ran out people were telling me I had to play by thee rules and concede - I had no idea this was the rule (that's on me).
I didn't know how to concede, so in the next game I asked my opponent who told me to go to the "burger" menu and choose "Concede". I did this and it said "It is forbidden to concede a tournament game".
Asked the organiser who told me to just quit next time.
I did this once my clock ran out and got a rep penalty for quitting a game.

So, how was I supposed to quit, legally, when my time ran out?

What you are looking to do is withdraw from the tournament. Go to the tournament page, and at the bottom of the panel that shows all the settings for the tournament you'll see a big red button that says "[w]ithdraw from the tournament."

Not sure I was clear enough.
It was a multi-game tournament in a league format, with a 5 minutes per player maximum time per game. When my clock got down to zero I was apparently supposed to concede the game, not drop out of the whole tournament, because that would leave other players with no opponent in subsequent games and probably get even more bad rep?

A 2p Carcassonne game with a 10 minute time limit? Pretty sure that 1 player slipping into red-time is almost inevitable. Did the tournament organiser make clear beforehand that there was a rule within that tournament that they'd created to say that anyone out of time had to concede?

I managed to wander into the tournament without noticing any such rule but that is probably on me because I have not played tournaments on here before the last few days and I probably missed a link to such rules.
It was insanely tight timing, and kudos to the other players because they were really fast. I managed to complete one game within the time limit but there was zero strategic play from my side, I was just jamming tiles down.
As I say, I didn't mind losing, I just thought it was punitive to charge me karma points for following such rules.

The only place such a rule could be posted for a specific tournament (that wasn't a private invite-only one) would be either the tournament-wall on the main tournament page, or the tournament-chat - also accessed on the main tournament page. If it wasn't clearly stated there, then your opponent was probably just making up a lie to you.

I'm guessing the organizer did not know you can't concede, even in two-player games, in tournaments. But besides that, making "rules" that are unenforceable (or in this case, incapable of being acted on) is kinda silly. It would be like running a Catan tournament before friendly robber had been implemented, then making friendly robber a "rule" for that tournament in some note that not everyone reads.

This is a silly rule as it asks people to do something they cannot do. It is the organiser, and player's who complained, that are at fault here, not the OP. If you exceed the time it is down to your opponent to kick you (by hitting 'skip'). I suspect the reason someone has put this in is because I believe in this case the player would have been given a short window to move after skip was hit.

BGA does not have a format to support blitz tournaments, and the only good manners response to that is not to run them.
