New Tier Maker Template

Post by TricksyFox »

Hey pals!

Let me know if this isn't okay to share. I'm the shiny new Community Manager over at Fowers Games. I made a tier-generator for Burgle Bros for our discord server and thought you might like it here as well!

https://tiermaker.com/create/burgle-bro ... s-16857600

Please let me know if you use it - we'd love to see your ranks!

Got my tier-list here. Based on approximately 600 games (BGA and in-person)

Image

I'll summerise most character choices

S-tier

Hawk (advanced): Really reliable all-round choice.
Spotter (advanced): The ability to manipulate events are huge in changing gameplay. It can also save players with events (with the correct rules)
Rook (basic): Effectively giving another player a bonus action (even more if you bypass deadbolt or laser).
Acrobat (basic): Effectively an extra action if you pass through a guard. Plus if timed correctly can allow you to bypass alarms or deadbolts for free.
Rigger (basic): Ability to draw an extra tool will help the whole team. Dynamite a useful starting tool as well.

A-tier

Rigger (advanced): Ability to draw a tool for a stealth is costly but powerful. If a team coordinates well then the rigger can activate at the right time and know exactly what items they are paying a stealth for. The only reason this doesn't reach S-tier is because on hard difficulty having one stealth makes this ability very risky or almost useless.

Rook (advanced): I thought this character was really bad at first, then I realised how useful he could be. To name a few examples, swapping with another team member to: save the other teammate, swap a teammate so their ability can be used to assist the whole game, swap so the rook can use their turn to advance forward then swapping back or to bypass certain bad loot cards (keycard, gold bar).

Juicer (basic): Alarm can be used to help teammates or just have a laugh.
Raven (basic): Slow down guard on your floor or help teammates on other floors, 2 range is really good too.

Hacker (advanced): Might not seem too powerful. The token that anyone can use to bypass an alarm from anywhere on the board is really powerful and I've seen it turn the tide of a game, it's also a good action sink to avoid an event. This one just made the A-tier.

B-tier

All these characters are good at what they do but not exceptional. The main reason the acrobat (advanced) made B-tier was because his ability is very good but also very risky and costly, hence he didn't reach A-tier.

C-tier

Raven (advanced): Powerful on floor one; harder to predict guard movement as it goes up though so is generally much less effective as the game goes on; unlike the basic Raven which is useful the whole game.
Peterman (advanced: The ability to open safes on different floors is really cool but it's very subjective whether you get to use it in a game or not (generally better in Fort Knox mode)

Hacker (basic): This one might surprise a few people. On solo mode this character is really good but BB is a cooperative so I have to look at how he helps the team and it's not very well. The hacker's main ability is to move through most alarm tiles without triggering the alarm. The second part is that players can pass through these tiles freely if the hacker is there (an ability I've only seen used a handful of times). The biggest drawback is that the hacker helps themselves, sure they can explore a floor with impunity, but that rarely helps the team get through later. Also the biggest double edged sword is the fact they can't trigger alarms in a hurry; something which I've seen result in a loss because another player is along a guards path (or at least a huge setback).

D-tier

Juicer (advanced): I played this character a lot before deciding it was just bad. The first ability is just a worse version of the juicer, allowing a player to trigger an alarm on their own tile. The second ability is a little better, allowing a player to pick up an alarm tile they are on and remove that alarm. This ability though can very easily backfire, but also the alarm limit is 1 and that alarm is needed to trigger the first ability. In other words the basic juicer does almost everything the advanced one can but better.

So I did it in my own subject, let's see the differences: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38571

S tier:
Hawk (a): same rating
Spotter (a): I put it way below. You didn't talked much about the difficulty of the game, but the +1 stealth is the best thing you expect from Spotter. So since you put it S, I think you talk about hard, else I would strongly disagree. But even with hard, you don't have any manipulation of the guard (or only a very weak one), or any strong benifict, so it's really weird to put it that high.
Rook (n): same rating
Acrobat (n): same rating
Rigger (n&a): Hum. The best item is the custom stairs and second best smoke bomb. So in average you will get one of the two item during the game, and get the other one only if you play rigger. And at the cost of another meh item. I could see myself be wrong on them, but again, you don't have any ability during the game, which is problematic in my opinion.

A-tier:
Rook (a): the difference come from the number of players I think, I don't think he is good at 2 players. And don't have enough experience with more.
Juicer (n): another big difference. You can in most turn not be in danger at all with juicer. I suppose it's much worst when you are two on the same floor, so that could again be a number of player differences. But unless you got a floor extremely tricky, juicer can have some solo game where you draw no card from the patrol stack during the whole game, and so take close to no risk the whole game. That should be way higher imo.
Raven (n): I will said we agree on it, I overvalued her a bit.
Hacker (a): same rating

B-tier
Hawk (n): same rating
Peterman (n): really believe Peterman should be lower. The ability to roll extra dice can be great on rare cases, but usually that effect will not do much, once you are in your safe tile with most tiles around peeked at, you can be pretty safe.
Spotter (n): same rating
Acrobat (a): I put it way above, but again it's for 2 players, once you add more players in each floor, that became way more costly to use. But being able to bypass many difficult spots can be extremely good.

C-tier
Hacker (n): I personnally agree with you.
Raven (a): same rating
Peterman (a): I could be wrong, but I would compare it to Peterman, since you put it above, it's partially because they can open safe faster, but Peterman advanced can crack a difficult safe from another floor.

D-tier
Juicer (a): This is completely missplaced though. Taking an alarm is not 'a little better' but let you have so many things available to you: moving to an unknown tile and be much safer if an alarm is present. Triggering an alarm in a dead end and picking it up to be safe on that dead end (included if it's the first fingerprint room of the floor). Change the current patrol card by another random one. End turn in a Detector right before a Deadbolt. And so on. / The second ability is worst, but like I said on my other post have most of the upside of normal juicer. And yeah normal juicer is much better, but since I put her in first, that leave lots of room for a worst juicer :p

So overall:
- agree: 9
- slightly disagree: 3
- disagree: 6

But I was expecting that with that many characters. At least we agree on half of them which is pretty good :)

Hi Romain672, I appreciate the feedback. I'll clarify a few of my character decisions.

Spotter (advanced): My play style often centers around using events, and the spotter does this really well. While the +1 stealth is good, plenty of other events such as floor access manipulation, guard movement and other events can be timed at specific points in the game to create some great combos. It's the Spotters versatility that really sells it to me.

Rigger (both): The Rigger tends to work best when the team communicates what items have been drawn already and can time the item draws correctly.

Peterman (basic): I can see your point there, it was on the brink of B-C tier.

Acrobat (advanced): For me I can't rank it higher because the ability is too situational despite the effect being good. Plus when you get onto hard difficulty, you usually can't afford to lose the stealth token early on by floor jumping.

Peterman (advanced): For me the ability is too situational, plus if you open a safe from a different floor, someone still has to pick up the loot from that safe.

Juicer (advanced): I make no apology for my rating. To me, it is objectively the worst character in the game.
