Can I change a Match start time after a tournament starts?

Post by leemajors »

Hello! I created my first tournament with some friends and we just completed the first round.

It is: Private, 6 players total, Blood Rage, 3 players per game, Multiplayer Elimination. In real-time.

It automatically set this up as 5 matches. We wanted to play 1 game/night on different nights when all available. I set them for a couple days apart, thinking I could change the dates/times of future matches as we went to something convenient for the players (I could do this before the tournament started).

Is there any way to change the dates/times of the next matches? Can we just NOT JOIN until everyone is ready?

Thank you!

You can't even change any parameters after anyone registers, let alone after it starts. People should be able to play the tournament they signed up for as it was configured when they signed up. They have not made a separate framework that works differently for private tournaments.

Unless you're BGA staff/admin, the person who sets up the tournament can't change a single thing whatsoever about any tournament setting once it starts.

Likewise, the person who sets up the tournament can only do the following 2 things once at least 1 person has signed-up to it, and before the tournament actually begins: cancel the tournament entirely before it starts, and amend the match-dates in the 'edit match dates' options.

Ultimately, if you're not BGA staff/admin, then literally all the tournament-admin can do, functionally, is choose the initial settings of a tournament. That's it.

I didn't even know you had that much leeway.

You're a premium-member. You can create tournaments. Have a look at the tournament-creation menu :)

I've created multiple tournaments. I was specifically referring to the ability to change the match date after someone has joined, which was specifically stated in what I quoted in my reply. I'm not sure what the confusion was.

Well, it looks like you can edit the match dates before it begins. I've never tried to actually do it though & maybe it gives an error if you try to save the settings after changing it 🤷‍♀️

To clarify this I did some experimentation and found the following:

• If I create a tournament and register in it, but no player other than myself has registered, I can still edit the match dates;

• If I create a tournament and someone else has registered in it, then when I click "Save" after editing match dates I get an error message, "You cannot change the configuration of this tournament because at least one player has already registered."

The tournaments I created for this experimentation are:

Thanks for checking it out.

As always, direct testing >> speculation.
