How to expel an absent player of a real time tournament?

Post by Moutonclan »

Hi,
Is there a way to expel a absent player from a real time tournament?
We've been stuck for more than an hour because of this situation and nothing happens.

Thanks

I'm curious about how the server deals with this, both in real-time and turn-based tournaments. I vaguely remember reading that there was a change in policy sometime, maybe around 18 months ago, so that players would be automatically eliminated from a tournament if they are absent from BGA, but maybe the way that works is, every time they are expelled from a tournament game they lose some reputation, and when their reputation drops below a certain level, only then are they eliminated from the tournament. That's not ideal.

It would be better if BGA implemented one of the following rules: either (a) the tournament creator has the power to eliminate from the tournament any player who exceeds the allotted time during a game in the tournament, or (b) a player is automatically eliminated from the tournament when (i) they exceed the allotted time in two different games during the tournament or (ii) they exceed the allotted time during one game during the tournament and during that game there was a continuous period of 50% of the allotted time during which the action was on them and they made no move in the game.

To clarify: for both (a) and (b) the elimination would occur at the end of the game the player is currently playing (i.e. they could finish the current game). Here is an example of what I mean in (b): suppose it's a tournament of a five-player game with the max game duration set to 10 days. Thus each player's allotted time is 48 hours. (i) If some player takes 50 hours in game 1, then completes game 2 within the time limit but takes more than 48 hours in game 3, the player is automatically eliminated from the tournament at the end of game 3. (ii) If some player runs over time in one game and there is a 24-hour period during that game when it was the player's turn and the player did not make any move in the game, then the player is eliminated from the tournament at the end of the game.

This is just an idea off the top of my head, I won't submit it as an official "suggestion" in the bug-reporting system until I get some feedback in this thread about whether these ideas are good or not.
