I find plenty of 2 player Splendor games with relative ease, and that's despite having rating restrictions apply so I don't get paired vs players where the gap between us is too absurd. Looking at the one game you do have, I'm going to guess you playing turn-based instead of real time as likely being a cause of your headaches here. I don't do turn-based, so I have no idea what the pace is supposed to be there, but in real-time I'm not having anything like the sort of problem you're describing.
Thank you for these insights!
My availability to play fluctuates throughout the day, so real time games are risky for me to commit to. I am good with "fast" asynchronous games and sometimes am effectively able to play them pretty much in real time, while at other times it might be a few hours before I get a chance to take a turn.
I am still trying to figure out BGA's queue system and how it works. The "show tables waiting for players" feature seems a little wonky to me. It will still show them long after they've closed, and I guess it doesn't refresh quickly or often enough, because I find that when a table opens, it fills up before I can manually join it. But if I'm in a queue to join a game, shouldn't I be joining that table automatically, and immediately?
I don't know how match finding works based on ELO. My ELO is low (65) because I'm new to BGA, not because I'm a noob at Splendor. Is there a way to queue to join a table with any number of players? When I search for game it makes me input 2, 3, or 4. I prefer 2 player matches, but I'd rather play with 3 or 4 than not at all.
