Bringing 18XX to BGA!

Post by Scofield »

We believe 18RoyalGorge is the ideal game to introduce the 18XX genre to Board Game Arena. As an entry-level 18XX game, it captures the core mechanics and strategic depth of the genre while maintaining a much shorter playtime, making it approachable for new players without sacrificing the complexity that 18XX enthusiasts love.

What sets 18RoyalGorge apart is its blend of Euro-game elements and modern design. The game incorporates streamlined mechanics inspired by Euro classics, making it easy to learn and play while retaining the economic tension and decision-making typical of the 18XX genre. Artwork-wise, it breaks away from the traditionally minimalist or utilitarian look of 18XX games, instead featuring a more visually appealing, Euro-inspired aesthetic that will engage players who may otherwise be hesitant to dive into the genre.

We feel that 18RoyalGorge is not just a great 18XX game but also a bridge between genres. Its faster playtime, coupled with familiar Euro mechanics and vibrant art, creates the perfect balance for Board Game Arena’s audience, offering an accessible yet strategic experience that fits seamlessly with the types of games that already thrive on the platform.

By bringing 18RoyalGorge to BGA, you’ll be giving players a chance to discover the 18XX genre in a format that feels welcoming, fresh, and engaging. It’s the perfect first step toward introducing a new era of 18XX games to your digital library, inviting both experienced players and newcomers to explore the genre in a new and exciting way.

We’d love the opportunity to bring 18RoyalGorge to life on Board Game Arena and help open the door to the wider world of 18XX gaming.

When you say, "we", can you clarify for whom you are speaking? Are you the publisher? If so, please provide some contact and compensation details. There will be several intrested developers since you're giving permission to license it here.

If you're a developer (again, how many people are "we"?), you'll need to contact the publisher for permission.

If you're not the publisher/developer, this is an inappropriate post. There is an official thread for game suggestions in the suggestion forum, whereas this forum is to discuss BGA development amont developers and publishers.

I think this account is one of the designers, judging from the nickname.

I hope so, too. 18xx would be absolutely terrific to both work on and play on BGA. I'll wait for a response before getting too excited.

Fortunately, it doesn't work that way by default. (Can you imagine getting endless emails/notification every time someone posts in a thread that you once posted in? Some of theese threads have been active for years.)

But you can subscribe to individual threads manually. Just click the wrench icon at the bottom of the page, then click subscribe. BGA will email you when someone replies.

I've sent you an IM about the project itself, but I'd still encourage you to share some more detail here. You're likely to attract more developers with more experience if you share details such as the number of cards, the complexity of actions (cards) not described in the rulebook, the timeline you're aiming for, and of course the budget you're working towards.
