Water vole and gnat issues with woodland edge

Post by Helbiii »

Hi everyone

With the woodland edge expansion I get issues with 2 cards :
- water vole from this expansion : allowing you to play any card as tree stamps
My issue is playing this card when you have one (or both) mushroom giving 1 card when playing trees
You can just end the game directly when you are ahead, as with water vole the card from the mushroom goes directly into your hand.
I think it s a bug and it should act like the mole from base game, you draw the bonus card from mushroom after you have finished playing all tree stamps you want (so max 7).
- gnat from the base game.
When you have one (or more) bat shrub from the woodland edge expansion. You are drawing the cards immediately.
In my opinion it s a bug even if not specified in rules
Same as mole, I think you should draw the bonus card from the shrub bonus after you have finished playing the number of bats you want.

Also, I haven’t play enough the expansion to have the following combo : what happen when you play a mole and have some shrubs in play, should you draw the bonus from shrubs directly or at the end ?

Am I missing the rule or should I report it as a bug ?

I have tested the water vole issue you're talking about, and i agree, its a serious issue. It really should be fixed as soon as possible.
I am not sure to understand your point about the gnat.
About the mole+shrubs, though, i think the logic would be that the bonus cards are received once you have finished to play the cards payed after the mole.

This is what the updated (after Woodland Edge) has to say about this:
"Effect: If you have a Parasol Mushroom and/or Fly Agaric in your forest when playing the Water Vole,
carry out the effect of those mushrooms first. (If by doing so you draw the 3rd winter card, the game
ends immediately.) Only then carry out the effect of the Water Vole by playing any number of cards
from hand as tree saplings as follows:
1. Place all cards you want to play as tree saplings into your forest.
2. For every tree sapling played this way, draw the top card from the deck and place it in the
clearing according to the normal rules. If by doing so you draw the 3rd winter card, the game ends
immediately.
3. If you have one or more Chanterelles in your forest, carry out their permanent effects for every
tree sapling you just played. Cards you receive this way have no further relevance for this Water
Vole. If during this you draw the 3rd winter card, the game ends immediately."

So it is indeed wrong that you can immediately play the cards you receive with Chanterelles and create an infinite loop.
Is this already fixed?

Yep, it was fixed, the playable cards have a shade of blue around them, allowing you to see which ones are still active or not.
Thanks to the developers who fixed this.
