Matchmaking Filter: By Region

Post by BryleCuff »

I play a large number of turn based games. When choosing certain preferences and especially on older, less popular games, it can take significant time before you attract the right player. My concern isn't about the wait, but often the player will be from incompatible time zone. For example I am from North America and often many European players join my game overnight. In the end they have a difficult time keeping up with their allotted time, and I expel them. The language filter doesn't solve this concern. Expelling occurs extremely frequently and causes a frustrating experience for them and for me.

I am requesting a region based filter. This way players who do not fit the suggested turn times will not be able to join to be inevitably penalized.

I don't want to stretch out my games with longer turns. It shouldn't be my penalty because they cannot make their turn on time.

what about people that don't play at the normal times for their region? night shift workers or just general night owls. Or people that time of playtime drastically changes like people that work all nights for 4 days and then after their day off have to work straight day shifts. locking them into a time zone isn't fair and if it can be changed at will some will be lazy about updating it, some will change it just to find games and people that schedule changes mid game are still going to be a problem for you.

but i can agree its sometimes an issue. most games that have a set turn order i dont find much issue playing with people in far off time zones as long as its 3 or less turns per day. but Yes, it can def be a problem if 4 people are one continent and the other is from the other. And it can be a big problem in games that have a combined phase followed by individual player phases

A better ask would be to get the playing hours feature added to the slower turn based time limits. it gives players a chance to play a turn or 2 off the clock and also lets people know what time frame you expect to play during.

You could cancel a game if it doesn't fill before bed but i think if you have a game going long just start another one early and use the note feature to keep the 2 games separate in your mind. unless they are days over i think most people rather finish a game than not

I would also like some sort of filter that would help playing with non-friends in turn based mode.

I stopped playing tournaments because I kept getting kicked out because I had to do crazy stuff like sleep. I would play regularly, but because I was asleep for 7 hours my timer would go into negative before the end of the game and I would get kicked.

I just don't trust the benevolence of people I don't know just so they can get an easy win and then my reputation gets hit.

I would play with more new people if there was a way to alleviate this issue.

Why isn't the "filter" you are looking for simply looking at the posted time settings for the tournament and only joining ones with settings you can adhere to without timing out? You remove the power of other players to expel you from the game if you don't time out. You now have experience with time settings that don't work for you, so obviously the first step is avoiding those settings (or shorter) in the future.

The number of days a round lasts is already shown in the summary of the tournament without even having to open each individual tournament page. Is there something more that is needed?
