Mattock - "From an Action Space"

Mattock says each time you get a reed or stone 'from an action space' you can get a clay.

If I have a card that gives me reed when an action space is used that otherwise would not give me reed or stone, is Mattock triggered?

Specifically, I think Mattock should trigger when Forest Reviewer comes into play (when Grove or Forest is used when the other is occupied, get a reed). Other cards that are less complicated (that don't trigger on opponent actions) should be more straightforward to give the mattock bonus.

No, it doesn't work. Forest Reviewer doesn't lead to you getting reed "from an action space", rather you are getting the reed as the result of a card effect. For the same reason, if you had Pioneer in play and got reed from Pioneer when using the most recent action space, it also shouldn't work.

On the other hand, if you had Outskirts Director in play, used it to put reed onto the Hollow space, then took the Hollow space, Mattock should proc. Because you are the taking the reed directly from the action space, and the effect of the card was merely to put the reed on the space to be available for taking.
